This came to me while I was sitting in class today.

Since skyboxes are being worked on, how about we implement reflection maps?  Nothing too complex, just a reflection of the skybox map.

This would allow modders to differentiate between painted surfaces and bare metal, and make the cockpit look even more realistic.

So what do you think?

Isn't that called Environment Mapping?  It would look cool, but how would we differentiate between a semi-reflective surface and one that is simply bright?

Well, how about using sections of map color coded to pure red(255,0,0) or pure blue(0,0,255)?

this was already proposed a while ago IIRC. it was of course put on hold until after 3.6.
