Need New Shivan WAV. Files
Okay, everyone remembers the sound that the Comm Node makes when you get close to it.  Everyone assumes thats how Shivans communicate with one another.  What I need is a series of wav. files that sound different from the original.  Ones that conveys anger, confusion, surprise, etc.  Has anyone thought of this idea yet?:confused:

no. Because you normally won't hear shivan communication.

The thing with Bosch was because terrans need to have something they can see / hear, the comm nodes amplify so much that you can hear the vibrations.

It's only some energy fluctuations, and you will not be able to tell the difference between the actual messages.

Actually, as the story line in my campaign goes, the Exiles get their hands on ETAK technology.  They can hear the Shivans communicating to one another, but they have no idea what it means.

Which is exactly as it should be - an ETAK device only amplifies subspace pulses and converts them to audio ones. The trick is, the SCN Kali (aka the Shivan Comm Node) does a similar thing, but being much more powerful, there's no need for an ETAK.

{begin theory}
Since those are subspace pulses, I don't suppose you'd feel/hear an energy fluctuation in your jumpdrive?
{end theory}

exactly -- you won't hear ANYTHING in those sounds, they will all sound the same to you. Special 'feeling samples' are thus completely misplaced.

And make that a double. I chose "Setekh" way back in the FS1 days because it was another name for Seth. Little did I know what they had in mind for FS2... :nervous:

you know trying to decern emotion in Shivan comunication noise is like trying to tell what mood some dog is by listening to the modem on a computer it is pissing on...

My theory is, ETAK is a device which allows subspace communications (what the shivans used) to be translated into audio, and converted to a language understandable to Terrans.

If I decide to bring T&T out of limbo, I might need some voice samples for Shivan communication translated to English speech by the TSA's ETAK II technology.

Roger that... To tell the truth, I don't even recall WHY I stuck on it, but hell, I'll take it over a Thoth anyday. Not that the Thoth is a bad ship, the armor just won't take enough punches for a slow pilot like me ;)

Yeah, well... I can imagine what it's like being an AWACS - I got called a "delta" Pegasus twice in the last week. :sigh:

@ Lightspeed - I beg to differ! A subspace pulse isn't a digital one, it doesn't have only 0 and 1 as a value. It has frequency, amplitude, wavelength and phase. That's four variables right there. An ETAK-esque device would have to monitor all of those and derive the meaning of the comm from them. (Alpha Centauri - Alien Crossfire influence, here)

Well, the theory holds the fort for a while, but I don't think ETAK ever went that far... IIRC, one of the Bosch Cinematics says that he managed to make only crude contact, but it was contact nevertheless.

when did I say that? Of course it's no digital signal.

Okay... I think I misinterpeted your comment, but IIRC I said "I don't suppose you'd feel/hear an energy fluctuation in your jumpdrive?", which was meant semi-sarcastic.

Since the Jumpdrive itself deals with Subspace (not to mention subsystems such as sensors and comm), I think it'd very well reflect on it. Maybe a power fluctuation, maybe just the usual pulse-scramble-pulse in the comm system...
