A friend of mine is having trouble running FS2, so I put it to you folk to find a solution.

Quote
The Specs:

AMD Athlon Xp 2100
256mb DDR Ram
GF4 MX 600 (basically a 460, but with a bit more power)
Latest drivers.

The Problem:
Basically, I set my graphics to medium settings. For about 5 minutes the games runs smoothly with no problems, on any graphic setting. However, as the mission progresses, the framerates start to drop, and the sound becomes crackly. After about 5 more minutes the framesrate have ground
below 5. And when i quit to the main menu, the music is all crackly and buzzy. Restarting just does what is descibed above.

SCP?  Which version?
So as through a glass, and darkly
The age long strife I see
Where I fought in many guises,
Many names, but always me.

There are only 10 types of people in the world , those that understand binary and those that don't.

Has your friend tried turning down hardware acceleration on the sound card by a notch or two?

Or disable Aureal Sound / EAX... i remember 3d sound causing me a shedload of framerate problems when I first installed fS2.

To disable the fancy sound options is to go into the sound tab in the launcher.

To dim down hardware acceleration would probably be in the advanced settings of the hardware data in window's hardware manager...

And patch everything. And register at HLP. That should fix all the rest of his problems. :p ;)

This is normal FS I'm on about, not SCP.

Uhh, there's a sound tab in the FS2 launcher as well you know (well, an Audio one anyway).

Yes...

But there's no fancy options in it.

IIRC there should be a pull-down menu... saying something like EAX, Aureal 3D or directSound.  Check the last one is set.

In Win98, the hardware acceleration is accessed by:
Control Panel -> Multimedia -> Advanced Properties -> Performance
Whatever that translates into in XP or whatever OS your friend is running.

Hi everyone i to have a problem, this is how it goes, I install freespace2 on WinXP Pro, so far so good, upgrade from V1.00 to 1.20, everythings fine, play the game, brillient, shutdown the computer, next time i want to play freespace2 click on play, select my player, go into the main menu, click on the continue champain(Sliding doors) then the loading screen comes up, i wait for the bar to light up to the end then, my screen goes black and i get transfurred not to the mission briefing but to my desktop i try again and still the same thing happens, but the only short term solution is to save my pilot details uninstall the game
reboot my system and perform windows Xp recovery using the XP disk, i say short term because when i want to play the game again later i have to do the process all over again, ive also recieved an error log explaining what the problem is I hope someone can help me.
