Ok, since i'm designing a campagn with a few concepts i would like to know your opinion on this topic:
Given an average fighter, would you like to get a strong hull with shields capable of withstanding one or two shots, or a Shivan like one, where you get uber shields but paper thin hull?
I need some data for game balancing purposes, so please at least vote in that poll...

I want normal hull and shields, but uber shield recharge (like my Phoenix)...

[color=cc9900]I would prefer a balance, but seeing as that's not an option I'll say stronger hull. If only because of AAAf turrets.

DG, the trick is that one faction has hull preminence, while the other one has much better shields...
There is no "balanced" option, the basic formula is:

Race 1 (terran): HP 120%, Shields 30% Hull 70%
Race 2 (vasudan) Shields 70% Hull 30%
Race 3 (shivan) Shields 80% Hull 20%

Shields. Hull is useless as shields normally are not penetrated anyway.

Actually, generally Terran ships have a balance of the hull and shield strength. Vasudan ships have a strong hull and weak shields, while Shivans have strong shields and weak hulls.

Yes, but in the future it will be different, as Vasudans gets superior reactors, so terrans will focus on armor and ballistic weaponry...

I would say a ***** hull, because when flying through Flak, or under heavy fire shields take a long time to recharge, and your hull saves a lot of your life. I think it has saved me on many occasions that I had that awesome hull instead of super-shields.

But if you can get away from heavy fire, you can come back with your defences at full. Can't do that with hull ;)

Who has time to run away and then come back when you are trying to bomb a heavy target and are under fire from several fighters? What do you do then? You see, getting hit by flak from a Deimos and then trying to run away with about 2 manticores on your back means you used up most of your shields on the Deimos, and then when the Manticores follow you away then you cant just sit there and recharge. You just cant do it. :sigh:
