hi, i have an idea for a new race i would like to put into the FS uni, i have the whole history of the speices etc worked out but these are the basics, they are a humaniod reptilian race(still to think of a name) who hate mammals, and wipe them out where ever they find them. to round them up, there ships are designed to be predators, they have;

- Nearly the same tech level as GTVA, bit higher on hull armor side
- no sheilds instead heavy armor(like a Croc).
- no beams weapons
- Battleship class, since none of the other species have them, loaded with turrets, pure anti-cap, no room for fighterbay and vuln to bombers, so has to have cruiser escorts.
- Don't know the meanin of the word Light bomber, figther etc.

Now are there any ships available that will fill the part of the Battleship while i try and model the ships my self?

PS where can i find a good modeling tutorial?

beware, making an entire species is a gigantic amount of work, and you need a pretty good story to add much to playing around with the current storyline.

Have a look in the modding section. of my FAQ as kasperl suggests. You'll probably want to read my Turretting tutorial at some point too.

Modding an entire race is a huge undertaking though. I don't want to discourage you from trying but unless you're the kind of person who can churn out a 2-3 models a week it's going to take you ages.

thanks and i do understand how tuff it will be, but at the moment in the campaign i am doing only a couple of there ships will be appearing, plus its something i have always wanted to do, design a whole new race, i have the culture, history things like that all done a long time ago, i just need to design the ships. At the mo all am looking to do is the Battleship, carrier, cruiser and hvy figther/bomber, and i do know it will take me a while to get used to truespace,  Because truth be told i am getting bored with just the current 3 races, it nds more.

And even if you can make does 2-3 models a week, there's quality to consider. I'm not saying you're a bad MODder, but making lots of good, high quality models is extremely hard. If you build a whole fleet of GTF Cubes, GTB Spheres, GTD Cones and GTC Cylinders, I would doubt the value of your work.

kasperl was to me or karajorma? i don't intend to 2-3 models a week, i will just take my time, i never rush things. but i really wanted to know if there was a ship that could be used as a battleship class, to test a mission? with i get to grips with TS3

dunno, really. Mindgames is doing the Starborn, but they're energy beings, not sure if they have ships.

btw, are you using tyhe SCP? if not, do so, it includes an enhancement with support for up to 9 species IIRC. ask Kazan, or read the wiki, preferably the last, since Kazan is rather hard pressed coding these days.

i will use the SCP its the only way i can get FS2 to run smoothly now cos it runs dead slow with out it, and don't worry DG i have only got the old Nightmare ships i bet they have changed and i don't know anythin about them.

I like the idea of them being aggressive with mean, tough ships.  And also i like reptiles

I was just thinking, it'd be cool if the armor was something that you would have to shoot first and damage it to then have access at destroying the ship. I don't know if it's possible to do it that way, but it'd be cool.

yeh that would be cool, am currebtly workin on a carrier, if truespace 3.2 would stop crashing and freezing my pc aaaargh
