A big part of what ruined series 7 & 8 was the way they turned Kryten into a whiny cry-baby. I never thought that worked very well.

Bring back the rest of the crew in series 8 was also a big mistake.

Craig Charles once described Red Dwarf as like Porridge in space in that it was basically about a bunch of people who hated each other but had to work together.  The larger crew spoiled that a lot.

the reason they went to CGI according to the books, is that the original models got destroyed when they where moving it. so i guess with the remastering of the 1st 3 series they just decieded to use the cgi model.

I do agree that it went downhill after series 6, and whole cry-baby thing with kryten went just beyond a joke

Are you sure?

My reasoning being there is - or at least was -  a 6 foot long model of Red Dwarf (true to the TV show) hanging opposite the record section of Londons main branch of Virgin Megastores. I kid you not :)

well acording to the scripts of series seven book that i own in the introduction it says that the model was broken beyond repair to use in the show.
