"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Old news. Anyway, it's kind of silly. Stick a piece of paper in a microwave and set the thing for long enough, it'll burn right in the middle, same deal.

the fact (if it's true) that it burned in the "exact same place on all of them" does seem some what odd, though I don't see how anyone would be able to use that to track me

RFID chip, Bob. The denser something is, the better microwaves can vibrate (IE, heat) it. The RFID chip is denser than the surrounding paper and thus heats up and burns the paper (Really a cloth, but that's neither here nor there).

You can be tracked by an enabled RFID chip by passing through any RFID scanner, anywhere. You've seen them in use as inventory control gates at stores. An RFID chip can transmit its unique ID to the scanner. If a clerk gives you a $20 and someone knows the ID of that $20, then all they have to do is query the logs of any scanner anywhere to see where you went.

Such a monitoring and tracking may be a violation of the law in the city or state where you live.

Well, if you got it from an ATM, that'd be one way.  Or using store cameras.  Or if you had to present ID (and it was logged), like buying bevvy.

Basically, they track the bill.  And then it's possible (maybe difficult, of course) to use that to track your activities.

wouldn't it just be easier to stick one of those chips in the back of my neck, maybe bribe my doctor, or just have some guy come up and smack me in the back of the head

Why do that when you can just hand someone a $20? Who would ever suspect that the $20 could be used to track them? We give and recieve bills all the time.

The method of tracking breaks down as soon as you give away the $20 though, so its probably best to use a large number of RFIDed bills to track someone, then watch what the aggregate does.

Well, yeah.  But then everybody would know.  The aim of a big brother state is to make you think you have freedom, whilst slowly degrading it.  Then, when a suitable crisis arrives (or is manufactured), it completely ripped away - but because you're focused on surviving the crisis, you don't care.

You know, that sounds awfully familiar... kinda like deja-vu... kinda like... nah. No one would do that!

Another bit of odd news, there will be newly 're-designed' US nickle going into circulation in the next few years.  I beleve we've found our tracking method.  New quarters, new $20's, new nickles?  A new $1 in the works?

Now, more than ever, taking a trip to one of the few sane countries is much more appealing.  How is Iceland this time of year?

mik, dont turn every thread into a "lets debate US domestic and forighn (sp) policy thread"

u realize, a bill can be ripped soaked, burnt, crumpled faded etc. into oblivion and still be legal tender. So their just getting rid of the ID chip to make sure their privacy isnt threatened.

Our privacy is a right, the government shouldnt be tagging, or tracking law abiding citizens in any way. Hell, we shouldnt even be tracking law abiding visitors or immagrints.
