WHO searches the forums anymore? People might have laid out an idea, but then if I post on it and bump it, people just get REALLY, REALLY *****y.

Ummm...the point wasn't to bump the old topic, it was to read it and learn from the conclusions that were brought forth in it.

Hell, I cant even work with 3D Max! I give out ideas, and I wonder what people think of them. It is something me and my friend have been hoping we could do on Capships, because he came up with an idea where you played as Admiral Boche after being taken away by the Shivans and you get to do really neat stuff, but he really wanted to take control of some nice weaponry on those capships.

Age is no barrier for this kind of thing...... hell, it's better to be young and not have to worry about uni and/or work.

Meh, you think just because we are young we dont have things we have to do? High School is no cakewalk dude, and I have plenty of projects, homework, and research I need to do during my time as a teenager. But, I can only learn so many things at once, and FRED, Java, and DEdit level design were some of the few that I have under my belt. Hell, I only have Java down to a DEGREE! Believe me, kids are not full of all the piss and vinager you think we have.

Of course, if someone could get me some way to get my damn 3D Max version authorized (I have the Authorization Code and CD Key, but it has a problem with it) as well as some steps to take on USING 3D Max, then maybe I could deliever a LITTLE something, but even then, people say you cant be an expert on the program in a week. So then, I bet it would be a few more YEARS before I got it down. But my birthday is in about 10 days...

Download gmax and do the tutorials. Then do them again. And one more time. Then comes the fun/difficult part: Creating something new that you really, really like. The tuts for gmax are pretty good, and the program costs quite a bit less than 3DS Max(read: FREE), then you can figure out how to get your models into Freespace(the community will help/point you in the right direction after you've given the search function a try), and you're set.

Oh, and FYI, I'd give my left nut if I could go back and just be 14 again.

EDIT:

Missed the part about you already having Max. That must be a helluva burn, you've got the prog and the keycode that came with the box doesn't work for you... sucks, man. Sucks bad,

This idea sucks.

a) You could destroy fighters instantly with capital ship beams
b) It would be boring shooting slow, unmaneuverable capital ships with beams that require no lead time etc etc
c) Flying a capital ship is also boring, because it takes 3 minutes to turn most of them

What, you think i don't remember school or something?  Trust me, I do (I'm only 21)- and hard as it may seem at the present (and it does), it's still the best time of your life for doing this sort of thing.

Think of it this way - start now (assuming you want to), and you'll be **** hot before you're 18.  That can't be bad, can it? :)

Oh, and there's a really good low-poly games modelling tutorial (on a fighter / spaceship) that comes with MAx v4, not sure about other versions)

Wah wah wah. I'm in high school too, dude, get used to it. It's only gonna get worse from here on out :p

Now I am getting lectures about how it is easy to be young. What do you guys know...

Of course, I know it's fun to be 14. Hell, I would like to just stop at 16 or so in my Sophmore year because its hella easier then Freshman. Take it from all my grade-older friends who say that going from Middle School to High School is a ***** and I know it for a fact. The year is almost over, however, and then I will have all summer to spend with my girlfriend and my happy little programs to make happy little things for you guys.

But anyway, since 3DS Max wont work for me, any great, free editing programs that I can use? I have Truespace 3.1, but I heard that it is very out of date, so, not sure what to work with here...

This idea does NOT suck...

A) You wouldnt be able to HIT a fighter with a capital ship beam, because mainly it would take about 3 or so seconds to CHARGE up and by the the damn thing is already out of the way. So, unless you want to waste your energy reserves and then miss like Nelly on your shot, then be my guest.

B) You arent ALWAYS going to be shooting capships dude. Where do you think Flak Turrets and Anti-Fighter beams come into play here?

C) You will have the ability to fly a capship, but most of the time it will waypoint FOR you, and you can have like a 4 player assault on an enemy, while other players fly fighter escort and, say, your Deimos is loaded with human players who are assaulting a base. A lot more intelligence and fludity in your attacks. It could also make an Aeuolus much more dangerous....... ;7

Tin can, if you don't want to be lectured on age discussion, stop using it as your excuse. Every time you suggest something, and people tell oyu to implement it yourself, oyu always say "I'm only 14..."

So What?! I was 15 when I joined this community 5 years ago.  You have to learn to do things on your own here, because those of us who know how to do things are in high demand and often busy with numerous projects simultaneously.

SCREW CANON!

Im using it as an excuse because I would not even know what the hell coding really IS or how to use up Model Editing. If you're realitvely "fresh" you have a tendancy not to know much. Savvy?

Can, guess what? I'M 15 (since 2 days ago), and guess what? I can model, I can table, I can mod, and I usually know what the SCP guys are talking about when they go on code and feature discussions.
And the funny bit is, I don't think anyone here can tell that I'm 15. Why? Because I A) don't use it as an excuse, B) try to act more than my age, and C) don't let my age stop me from learning how to do things.
Savvy?

Wasn't Steak ridiculously young when he co-founded this place anyway?

Seems like age isn't an excuse for anything :D

Happy birthday for 2 days ago UT:D
Blitzerland: Knows what he's talkin' about

I work at an Arby's during the summer and also mow lawns when its not too hot out...

And UT, just because you might know more then I do doesnt mean the rest of us do. I've got friends who havent even touched a computer (at least I dont think they have. Either way, they are pretty stupid...) Besides, I dont use it as an excuse, I just impliment the fact that I am that age, and then say that I dont know squat about some of that other junk.

Im going to go look for another 3DS Max Authorization Code... mine is stumpied...

That's nice. I learned about that junk because I wanted to. So you do the same thing. Shut up about your age, and don't even bring it up in conversation, because everyone will think you are trying to use it as an excuse. If you're not, don't bother bringing it up, because we dont' care how old you are.

And thanks magatsu1 :D

Why did my youth and age have anything to do with controling capital ship beams? It doesnt, so, I dont even know why you guys want to ***** about it. Anyways, as they say at Digitalized Zone:

"Let's get back on topic you stupid mother ****ers!"

I would like to hear from that guy who said the idea was stupid, and then have him read over my pointers. He obviously thinks that no rules apply in this case and as such, I just listed them. BTW: I got 3DS Max to finally work, so, I'll be ready to learn those modelling things.

No hard feelings, right folks?
