Hardware advise - mp3 player and soundcard
The mp3 player on this page caught my eye.
http://www.aria.co.uk/specials.asp#885
Is that good value for money?
I dont want to spend more than £100

Also Im looking for a new sound card, would like something quality also under £100 and NOT made by creative. Im never buying one of their products ever again.

well, a non Creative sound card would be a Herc, AFAIK.

and for the MP3 player, is size important? if not, i'd spend that cash on an MP3/WMA CD player, possibly a Riovolt 250 (the black one, it has radio)

Had it for a year, got sick of its crap, now Im using my onboard which is causing problems but at least seems to be able to handle the concept of playing sound.

I was damn tempted to smash the damn thing to peices in the street, the amount of time I've wasted on it.....

A very good choice for a non-gaming card would be the M-audio revolution:
http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=products.main&ID=0ed0405324041d8025a955aa6ae2db1c

Priced ~$100.

Apart from some Audigy models, I doubt there are any out there that would provide quality audio AND good support for 3D gaming.

Yet there is the choice of using multiple cards.
E.g. I have here a cheapo SB live for games and a Terratec Sky for other stuff http://productsen.terratec.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=148&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0)

Try Maddog, though even with my bad luck (burning out an MP3+5.1) with Creative, I find the Audigy 2 NX is good. It's one of the few sound, er, cards that you can get at a decent price and plays 24-bit/96khz sound.

Otherwise, you could look at Maddog. They're a, well, cheap company, but have good products for low prices.

Or if you just need basic sound playing, a Sound Blaster 16 PCI will almost certainly work. By far the most reliable card I've ever used, out of the three brands I've tried (Creative, Turtle Beach, and Maddog)

On a side note, does anyone know the conversion for pounds to dollars? Some of those deals look especially delicious if they're anywhere near the same in dollars...
