Graphics Card on a Budget ($180/£100)
Firstly, don't ask why I'm buying a top of the range gfx card to go with a crappy processor and 64mb ram.

Secondly, this is to go with my future subscription to EVE.

Thirdly: I'd prefer a Radeon.

Suggestions, comments, advice and donations to the Church of Death are all welcome.

Why the hell are you buying a top of the range gfx card to go with a crappy processor and 64mb ram?!?!? :wtf: :D

Radeon 9000 was ok for a good price... of course I don't know much about computer tech so my advice is not to be taken heavily... :nervous:

Radeon 9600. You could almost get a 9600XT for that money.

Anyone care to explain why an XT costs more than a Pro?

Because it's newer and theoretically better. There are some chip arrangement changes, and some clock modifications.

OK, well, look here for a spec comparison of 9600 cards:

http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9600/radeon9600pro/compare.html

The only difference between an r9600 XT and Pro, is that the XT's core clock is 100MHz faster.

IMO, go with the pro with 128MB of RAM, and see how much you can overclock it, cause you never know.

If you're going for the PRO with 258MB of Ram, you may as well just buy an XT, as it's only ~20-25$ more in general.

The why are you even bothering to ask?  Buy the Radeon that you can afford and BAM, you have it.

I got my 9600XT 256mb for £120 (well, I didn't, but if you payed VAT it would've been £120), and that was a while back. On www.komplett.co.uk they're now £115, where the 9600XT 128mb is £105.

Somehow I think £10 for another 128mb of video memory is worth it.

If you don't mind "who-the-fuck-are-they?" branded, then you can knock a tenner or so off that:

I can only recommend t'other one though, since it's what I have. I don't know if this one will perform very well.

Now all I need is some free net-auction software.

Apparently if I install it on some domains (like 321bid.com) my pops will sell the sites+domain on eBay and split the cash 50/50.

Really I needa  free one.

And the only decent free one I've found is Web Auction and it's all in German.

My card came with HL2, yes. I heard rumours of them discontinuing that due to some supply issue yadda yadda whatever. So, I don't know.

No homepage, I know. But all you want is the code, right? Can't hurt downloading the zip and trying it out. Seeing as the alternative speaks German and all that.

I just read recently that ATI is no longer putting HL2 coupons in their radeon boxes, other than the 9800XT, but I know they stopped a while ago.

Make sure there is a sticker on the box that says the coupon is inside, otherwise, it's most probably not.
