Life is good, life is very, very good
I just got my brand new 19" Flatscreen monitor.

The thing's a beast, it just fits in my desk monitor space, but it's top of the line...  i had it on 2048x1538 for a few minutes, and it switched to the resolution perfectly (i've never had a monitor that can go that high).  for the first time in my life i'm running at 1024x758 my whole life i've run at 800x600, but i love this res.

just thought i'd share it with you :nod:

i can't wait to start gaming with this monster

Yeah.. I have one too...I had to pull my desk 6 inches out from the wall so it would fit on the monitor stand without hanging over the edge and falling off on me.
I run at 1600x1200 btw :p

I'll remember to cram the specs of my new computer down your throat as soon as I can get the £1500 to buy the ****er.

I've only been passively saving for the past 2 weeks and I'm up to around £300. Not bad considering I'm unemployed, anti-social and have no marketable job skills.

Congrats, but just think about the size of the CRT you could've gotten for that money!;)

Like hell it does. Sure, a $10mil ransom or some such seems like a lot of money, but it's nothing compared to the start-up capital for a secret base and an orbital laser.

Besides, when you're in it for the genocide, there's not that much profit to be made.

This is why I'm branching out into the software business. If it worked for Gates....

oh it is a CRT.  i'm not familiar with monitors, but it says "Flatscreen" (the front is flat)... it's not like a flatpanel monitor... you know.

it's 19" viewable, by the way

Does it refresh fast enough to be playable with games? If yes, then consider yourself envied...

Life is good, life is very, very good
Flatscreen == screen is flat

Flat Panel == LCD screen

Flat Panel = About 2 inches deep.

Flat Screen = About 12 inches deep.

The first term can also be used in reference to Virtu's sex life, as and when he gets one.

Got a 21" CRT Monitor. It came up the stairs once in my arms. I never want to have to move it again.

AoB is Ascension of Beyond, one of the campaigns here :)

My monitor is going whacko, anyway.  Oh!  A question for you smart people:

What is a monitor's "refresh rate?"  What does it do?  I know different monitors have different refresh rates, but can someone explain what it does?

Literally, it's how often the image of the screen is redrawn in cycles per second (minute???)

Higher the refresh rate, the more steady the image.  Low refresh rate = flicker.

How do you figure out what to put your monitor on?  I just keep it on "optimal" but I wonder if that's right.

Lemme get this straight. You're running a 19" viewable screen at 1024x768? I run my 15" (14" viewable) at 1024x768, and my 17" (16" viewable) at 1280x1024! Are you like a kilometer away from your screen? :p

I'm reminded of the Wierd Al song, "Frank's 2,000 Inch TV". ;)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill
