Is not illigal to use extracted models as long as you are not sellign them on or making cash from them.
Thats AFAIK anywayz/

Imagine if Microsoft released that map, and created a multiplayer race out of the entire thing. Hell YEAH that would be fun!!

This can be done already with the tools we have.

Well, actually, it is. Some societies/people don't ming ( comapny games, usually, don't mind ), but in some other cases, they'll go to great ends in that regard ( a great exmple, Alien quake, 20th century forced the developpers to give up coz they were using scanned shots as textures on the meshes, for exemple, or Starwars Doom, which waqs even worse, they made all the art from scratch, but they didn't have the license :doubt: ).

I already checked legalities, and the only two clauses that MS has in the EULA were voided when they gave Grenadiac (Halo Modder) the source to the map files, and then declared HMT open source... Check the SG FS forum for details...

SParkedit and HMT were NOT created by Microsoft.
M$ did not give the source to the map files either.
Sparkedit was created by Grenadiac, HMT was created by MonoxideC.
The offsets (for hexediting, and forms the basis of both programs) list was made by Ironforge.
These guys (and a few others but ive forgotten their name) enabled us to mod Halo xbox & PC, NOT M$.

M$ is yet to release the HEK (Halo Editing Kit) which the community has been waiting for the past 6 months.

So, basically, as long as Hippo doesn't try to make any money from the Mod, it should be ok to do?

Extract all the models, the Hog, Scorpy, Wraith, everything, and make them pilotable in FS2. Imagine a wing of hogs flying around taking on a wing of ghosts lolz.

I am bored, if you can't tell.

AFAIK yes. Dont quote me on that tho.

A mod for FS2 could be possible, but would require a whole lot of reading the books to get the look of the ships.
There are plenty of cruisers etc, only two fighters tho.

EDIT: Oh and the Pelican can fly in space, but it only has a 70mm chaingun.

Hm... my mistake about MS then...

THe pelican got confusing in the books; like you can fit 75 kids and some adults in the back, and there must be a space-rated door that can close over the cargo bay...

Not to mention that in First Strike, they landed in the longsword, and then refferd to the pelican...

EDIT: Reppy, I see you got your name on HBO's news page yesterday :p ...

Yea the books have quite a few errors in thim which are annoying, but still readable.

Im /guessing/ the pelican can be expanded somewhat, as the one in game can hold 10 marines in seats, possibly 3-4 standing, and maybe one or two in the cockpit(sp?). If ya look around the edge of the bay, it looks like there are slots or summut there, possibly expanding its space over where vehicles are held.
Hell I dunno thats a guess.

Ive been on HBO a couple of time, only from reporting some new maps/progs. ;7

Im also a moderator over at the Gearbox Software forums (the guys who ported Halo to PC) ;)

Now, I haven't read the books here or anything, but the 75 person passenger thing seems kinda stupid for a pelician. On the otherhand, the Longsword could more than likely fit 75 people in it. Look at the size of the bloody thing. In the oppening cutsecene you get a good idea on how huge that thing is.

And, as the pelican carrying weaponry.... ummm, where did you get that little tidbit. I dont ever rember it in the game, and if it could carry guns, you think that the two of them would have on the Silent Cartographer level, and that Foe Hammer would have in the laast mission.
tianjun1298 > Your this only the fine insect which escapes from the condom

In the books the Pelicans had 70mm chainguns, but they had ran out of ammo, and were unable to recover any from the POA`s crash site.

The 75 person part I dotn remember, Ill guess I have to re-read that part, but it may have not been a pelican, or at least an over sized one made for troop transport.

I'd guess the 75 person thing would be about the SPARTAN II kids.. but if you remember, they were supposedly packed in there pretty good (they'd have to be). And the Pelican was supposed to have rocket mounts too..

True... Its mentioned when they drop off the kids and they have to reach an evac point, and John gives Deja control of the other pelican, and he's made squad leader...

In the books, they did use the chaingun in the Silent Cartographer, where FoeHammer chases an elite up the beach, and is rewarded with him disappearing into a cloud of sand...

I'd like to know where they'd stick the gunmounts on the Pelican, because in the game, there dosen't really apear to be anywhere on the bird that could effectively mount a chaingun, much less a rocket launcher and still make an effective landing craft.

That doesn't really make sense. If they could find +200 people, guns for all of them, rocket launchers, jeeps, tanks, not to mention ammo for all of those, AND flying craft, how could they not find ANY 70MM ammo?

what? no... the pelicans left when the PoA was entereing the rings atmospehere... everyone left ON the ship dies when it crashed, but the covenant soon took over the ship... when the flood showed up, they took over the ship to, but hadn't gotten into the engine room, or vehicle storage rooms... a marine strike force from Alpha Base (a captured forerunner facility on the surface of halo) was dropped off outside the PoA near dawn by some of the pelicans... The strike force got into the ship, secured, and locked down the storage areas, and plundered the area, anld loading 50MM autocannons from the Autumns armament into pelicans to be set up on Alpha Base... The Pelicans then ferried in drivers and gunners, and marines loaded every bit of ammo onto trailers or into the pelicans to stock Alpha Baes... They were unable to recover any of the ammo for the pelicans chaingun, or any missiles, but took their prizes: some 45 warthogs with trailers full of suplies, 4 Scorpion Main Battle Tanks, and all the food they'd need to survive a long time...

As for the model, its in no way a useable model, and it will take a lot of work to make it one... it has no weapons, is about the size of a countermeasure, isn't pointed in the general direction of strait ahead, the textures, while extracted, are unuseable as is, since everything is stuffed onto each tile in different sizes... The other thing is, if there's any hope of a Halo to FreeSpace mod (using the SCP), as i hope to start (see sectorgame), it would be kindof depressing to see people using the model already, if it could be included in a campaign... It would be if the SWC released EVERY ship we've finished, and then put out a campaign and missions last, after everyone's already come up with their own, it just makes the whole point of people working on it pointless...

As far as I remember where the ammo was stored were they couldent reach in the POA, as it was either blocked by Covies or inaccessable somehow, again you would have to refer to the book for this.
