Godevac (Total Annihilation 2 of the Community) IMG HEAVY
I mentioned this a while back, but never really told much about it. I am currently working for project Godevac, a group of members from the TA community who want to see Total Annihilation 2 made, as a modeler/texturer .

Yes i know phantagram, or whoever the license has been sold too, is currently making the actual TA 2. Chris taylor, the ultimate god of RTS is not part of the production of this game which = almost definite disapointment.

So in the same essence that we have the SCP and Ferrium here, us at the TA Universe forums have Godevac. Unlike the SCP though, we dont have TA's original source code to work with, why? Cuz Atari sucks my balls thats why. So we are making the game, mostly from scratch.

If any of you are interested ( Sandwhich, i know you are ) visit the site here: http://www.godevac.de.vu/

And for the attention defeceit of you, heres some pictures, because i know many people will just pass over all of my writing, without reading it. But before the pictures I will take advantage of this situation, and insult all of you ADD bastards:

"Your grandmothers are whores, **** **** **** and may An0n torture your soul in the firey depths of hell for all eternity."

Piccies (note, probably all of the models used, will NOT make it into the actual Godevac, also these are from the tech demo engine, not the final):

Well I'm glad something interesting came out of TAU. Does anyone still play the original game any more BTW?

Great looking art there, and the engine looks like it's really coming along. :) Are any of the other Godevac modders interested in FS? :D

SERIOUSLY...! | {The Sandvich Bar} - Rhino-FS2 Tutorial | CapShip Turret Upgrade | The Complete FS2 Ship List | System Background Package

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Pardon my ignorance, but why not just make it a mod for, say, C&C Generals? Because it seems like the only screenie that you posted that looks 3D is the one with the metal corridor...thingies.

No, you have obviously never played TA and if you have... shame on you.

We need to be able to edit source code, these are tech demos of our engine, we are nowhere near the actual one we will use.

You have to play TA to understand why this is not possible. The engine TA used is better than 98% of the rts engines out there (gameplay wise), and were going to make a much improved one.

You mean physics-wise.  Gameplay still depends on the unit selection more than anything else most often.

Albeit, the interface and queuing system was rather nice imo.

Godevac (Total Annihilation 2 of the Community) IMG HEAVY
TA's interface was hardly original, but it was so refined that it made controlling one's armies far easier than Generals or some other nth-generation Warcraft clone.

Krackers, will you guys be implementing the features that TAHook (now Demo Recorder) added to the game?

That should have been "Nth generation DUNE2 clone". I loved all thes RTS games back when they were called Dune2 and had a license that didnt' suck.
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

Is TA on Underdogs?  It is the ultimate RTS, beyond C&C, beyond the Earth series, beyond your frail ideas of what RTS is, there in the dark reaches lies the perfection of a genre that TA represents.
So as through a glass, and darkly

Where I fought in many guises,
Many names, but always me.

There are only 10 types of people in the world , those that understand binary and those that don't.

TA was ok, not that great and I personally thought Generals was pretty fun. Who buys C&C games for strategy and tactics anyway?

Heh, to tell you the truth i never could get hook runnin...

But the test demo engine is fully 3d (moveable camera) so i would think so, unless there were other things offered by hook.

Im a bit out of the loop, i havent been very active lately, but as soon as i manage to contact the seemingly mia leader, ill let you know..

IMHO TA is still the king of all of RTS systems, C&C didn't offer anything new beside loop-selection to be superior over Dune 2 technology wise, while TA created an engine that had a wast potential - too bad it was never fully exploited.

TA had a good interface and very modder friendly engine.

I love the Earth series for its balanced dark tone (no good guys or bad guys just a horrible war), but their interface is somewhat lacking.

What some people fail to notice is the different kind of genious Blizzard owns: their games didn't have such a new element as TA did, but the gamplay was awsomely well balanced. - if Cavedog managed to come up with something as inspiring and balanced as that TA would still be the number strategy game to date.
"I was going to become a speed dealer. If one stupid fairytale turns out to be total nonsense, what does the young man do? If you answered, “Wake up and face reality,” you don’t remember what it was like being a young man. You just go to the next entry in the catalogue of lies you can use to destroy your life." - John Dolan

You're right about Blizzard but for the wrong reasons, I think. Firstly, their marketing is superb. TA received some great reviews but that didn't help sales. They are more of a community-driven developer backed by a successful approach to marketing it. Blizzard also immerses players more in their products - all those superb cutscenes, mission scripting, extra functionality and so on.

Ya, sid, your verry right. The story for TA was intresting, but you couldnt be imersed in it, and after the intro, personally i stopped caring so much.
