Ok, here's the deal. We don't have any way to get www.freespace2.com or www.volition-inc.com to link to HLP as the main site for FS, so we have to resport to Google bombing.

If you have a site, no matter how small, paste the code below into the webpage:

I may or may not have a certain piece of CGI software on one of my computers which may or may not be purposely designed by people far more '1337' than me for trapping search engine bots into a link-loop and vastly over-inflating a page's importance in the grand scheme of things.

Yes, but the link text is important for this to work. Most links pointing here that say "HLP" aren't going to help someone searching for "freespace 2 mods" a single bit.

well to get HLP to get to the top of search engines (listen up all you noobs, here's how you do it) on a few of the pages, paste (in the same color text as the background) words like Freespace, Freespace 2, campaign, hard light, hard, light, campaigns, mod, mods, modify, space simulate, space-simulate, space simulator, space-simulator, etc.  if possible even in different sizes and colors, though that won't make a difference

Anyway, that's a sure way of getting to the top of the list within a few weeks.  i know, because i've used it on two occasions, and it's worked both times

but that's a cheap, pathetic way, not quite the real way, and i haven't used that method since.

I thought a number of search engines had been designed to avoid precisly that sort of thing? Or was that just META tags? But I've never tried it, so: would that still work if you stuck it inside an invisible DIV tag? That way it wouldn't mess up the page layout on compatible (ie. most) browsers...

No, no - inks to HLP are fine and wonderful, but the point here is to have the text of the link saying "freespace", so that the search engines begin to associate "freespace" with HLP.
