Curse you, Civ 3! Curse you to hell!
So I spread my mighty Empire with Republic, trade and culture and finally, at late 1400s, control most of the western/southern Pangaea, playing as Americans. I just got pissed off with slow advance, so I tried to simulate the world progress with notorious "ask a ****load of gold per turn" cheat, which then backfired because I grew happy with my scientific progress. Well, just one game.

Suddenly, out of the blue, Greece decides that US is going down. Dunno why, because I gave them luxuries and technology. So I move my forces to prepare to pay back.

Then Zulus declare war on me. Iroquis declare war on Greece and me. China attacks Rome and Greece, and Rome eventually declares war on Iroquis, me and Aztecs. Aztecs freak out and declare war to Greece and Germany. Everyone declares war to me, then asks for peace and some really bizarre military alliances. Zulu asks for peace, I accept. Aztecs declare war on Zulus. France declares war on just about anyone.

At this moment I have managed to force peace on my immediate vicinity, but am still at war with 8 nations, all of which declared war on me with no apparent reason and refuse to accept my emissaries. My population is slowly getting more and more war weary, and the entire world is now a cluster****. I tried supporting some local powers on the other end of the world, and now everyone's busily slaughtering each other. My trade has fallen down, I have hard time trying to beat back the sudden little attack Russians or Babylonians throw at me (again, with little or no reason), and generally it's like a WW1. Thank god I'm at peace with my largest neighbours at this moment.

I mean... WTF.  Add the fact that galleys just owned my ironclad and my cavalry is quite often won by spearmen. Yeah right gg nextmap.
lol wtf

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Curse you, Civ 3! Curse you to hell!
I just managed to force Russia to accept light peace terms, and practically surround their area with ari and cavalry.

They declared war on me.

edit: I am aiming for tanks now, but the fact that a lot of combat is at this moment being waged in jungles limits even the tanks' practicality. Trying to cut the horrible Roman-Iroquis-Chinese block (who also are fighting each other) from reaching my territories. This is the most intense war I've ever had. And the stupidest also.

Edit 2: Destroyed the Russians, crushed the Zulus and approaching Babylonia in order to whip some sense into them. Greece and Rome, however, signed a trade blockade against me. All hail the great Invader Janos.

Build a big army. Then people don't declare war on you. It always works for me.

Oh, and don't play as the U.S. They don't have good characteristics. Babylon, Egypt, and Persia are the best.

I'm currently taking over the world as Egypt...

Well, my army outnumbered the Greek army in numbers roughly 30:1 and quality was way ahead (Riflemen vs. Spearmen).
I got USA because I just hit "random". Forces you to find all-valid tactics. I really like USAs increased output.

This is really bizarre. Now the countries are more willing to accept my peace offerings, because I just disembowelled Babylon and they're beggin for peace (which I do not intend to give to them yet, for strategic reasons - better to have fully crippled enemy that's angry to you than still somewhat viable opponent which hates you).

Oh, and my oldest friends now signed a trade embargo against me, yet the reason escapes me.

I am busily waitin A) tanks and B) nukes.
lol wtf

Curse you, Civ 3! Curse you to hell!
The longest game of Civ 3 I played, I finished every oposition except one little guy who was on the brink of destruction. A map with lots of sea and islands. I had one ally (England IIRC) in a medium/small island in the upper part of the map. They had fleets of their unique ships making them an ally that no force on earth (except me and my especially prepared nukes in nuclear subs surrounding their island  ) could beat.

While they took care of the seas, I conquered the rest. Game Over, Persia ruled the world!! :D

I usually just build enough to hold the cities and try to secure the island/continent I am on as fast as possible and try to make sure that I'm the only one there.
After that I just focus on scientific goals so that I can get tanks/destroyers/nukes etc.

They usually always declare war on me though, although they hardly ever attack me.

I love that game, until you piss somebody off that is stronger.
On my version without the patch, there is a way to get them to agree to anything.  Put in the slot for money per turn 200000000000000 as far as it will go and he'll accept.

The longest game I ever played. Ghandi kicked ass in a Nuclear Power and caused a huge Nuclear Holocast between me the "babylonians" and Ghandi the "Indians" which then caused the world terrain was completely desert and poluted, but very fun!!

I always go with a strong play in both diplomacy and conquest - I estabilish my empire in the Iron age (swordsmen own) then try to strenghen and industrialise my country in the middle ages.

I finally either go for the Spaceship or overpower my technologically lesser foes, while I try to level the lesser states into suporting me.
