what is there to understand? you just pass it a .mve and it creates an uncompressed .avi? if the palette of the resultant avi don't look right (NOT the one during capture, that is supposed to look odd), use -30 as extra commandline option after the filename. Optionally you can specify the target .avi as second argument, pushing any existing arguments to the next position.

Ok, to use it you need to put all the files in the zip into rhe same folder, (not desktop) wIth NO SPACES in the folder name... you then need to go to c:/windows/system32 (or c:\winnit/system/ and search for a file called "command"... copy the file to the folder with FSP... Copy the movie you want to convert to the same folder, and re-name it something simply (all caps is easier too) and add the ".MVE" to the end... for example: "BASTION.MVE"...

open the command prompt you copied, and it will automatically go to the correct directory... type the following: [q]fsp.exe BASTION.MVE[/q]

where BASTION.MVE is the movie name, IN THAT FORMAT... press enter... wait while the movie plays (it may look verry messed up) and then notice as the AVI is deposited into the folder under the same filename...

Enjoy...

Check the filesize JDJ. You might be rather horrified.

Couple of quick points.

1) You may need Windows NT/2k/XP to do the FS2 intro as the file produced is around 4GB in size (which means you'll need a NTFS partition)

2) Obviously you probably won't want to give up ~10GB of hard drive space for the movies so you'll probably want to convert them into a compressed avi format. For this you may want a copy of virtualdub

IT also seems to vary depending on how much you have running when you convert it...

Ok, for right now I have the freespace1 movies and they are around 500 to 900 MB and the Intro is only 19 MB

And yes my hard drive is pretty HUGE in my opinion, 59 GB on one and like 14 on the other

Intro is a LOT bigger then 19MB... a LOT... ts the longest movie in both FS1 and 2... Therefore, it will have a bigger file...

And a low forehead. :p

If you're taking up 10GB for something you can fit in 200MB.

Mine take up 38MB but I suspect I compressed them too much. I might redo them one day if I learn a bit more about compression setting or someone posts some good ones :)

If there's enough demand for it, I can redo all the FS2 movies in larger filesizes with a solid encode.

Some of the artifacts (such as the blocking) can't be completely fixed, but it should look decent enough.

Keep in mind that this is not officially sanctioned by the SCP. In fact, last I heard, it was illegal to use any program besides interplay's that played/converted MVE files...

I thought reverse engineering was legal in the states? Their beef with this program maybe that it wasn't RE'd but if it has been I can't see how they could complain about it.
