And I think anyone who's driving a Hummer should have his tired slashed and his gas tank emptied everytime he parks. Everyone who wants to buy a 4x4 should be forced to proove he needs one of em to do his work or get to his or his family's house or something.

i hate hummers.  they weigh 8500+ pounds, have 6.0 L engines that eat up almost as much gas as my car (i have the same size engine as a H2) and they suck.  they're pointless.  and god help you if you ever get in a wreck with one, because, as was mentioned in the site, unfortunately not everyone can afford to drive a military assualt vehicle...

Well, the damn things aren't even safe themselves. Either nothign get's crunched on the outside, meaning that all the crash energy comes into you, or everything crunches, meaning the cabin comes into you. The safest car on earth right now is the Renault Espace. Geuss what we're getting next.....

As for money, calculate how long it would take for you to earn the added cost back in spared fuel money.

Heh, fair enough :D. And nobody except farmers should be allowed 4x4s. They're just....crap.

*Raa loves his Integra. It gets 30 miles per gallon on the cheap gas. And it's more nimble for maneuvering around big clunky 70's cars.*

So that's a reason to deny people the right/opportunity to buy one?  The reason SUVs of all kinds are popular is because they are inherently safer to have a wreck in than eco-cars.

Many names, but always me.

Are they? A Renault Megane pulled more stars out of the Euro safety thingy then a Land Rover, and some big SUV I forgot the name of.

And yeah, people should be denied the opportuniuty to buy one if it completely wrecks the envirement, and guzzles the same amount of petrol you can run 4 other cars on. (An accelerating Hummer pulls 1 (one!) MPG, and a normally driving one 3. )

Heheh, not sure about that - I'd have thought it would be because people think "I know, I'll get a big, wide car so I can fit my big, wide ass into it without breaking it", or because they were fashionable about 8 years ago. And they're not safer at all - off-roaders (or not, in the case of most of them :p) are unstable at high speeds, and roll far more easily than normal cars. There was a test on "Fifth Gear" (motoring magazine programme on Five), where they got a Range Rover and an old BMW 5 Series, and drove them behind another car. The car in front suddenly jammed on the brakes, and the following car had to swerve around it. They then increased the speed both cars were travelling at, and watched the results.

The Beamer stayed fine up to 80mph (though it did spin at higher speeds), and they stopped the test there. The Range Rover flipped on it's roof and rolled 4 times at 45mph.  Now, I dunno about you, but I'd rather spin into another car than get crushed upside down.... ;)

Raa: :D Nice - the Japanese and the Germans build the best cars by a long way. Normal cars, anyway. The British and the Italians build the best top-end sports cars....

yeah, i don't think it's right to sell Hummers.  if people can buy Hummers, why can't i buy a sherman tank?

"And if I can own a pistol, why can't I own an M-249?"

This phrase just popped up in my head, dunno why. (I am against allowing guns for civilians, BTW.)

Top Gear (UK BBC car Tv show thingy) tested the aforemention Renault Megane, and a lot of other vehicles on safety, and they included the hummer. The result was clear: A good, small car is safer then a very big, but not safety designed car. Hummers were especially mentioned as being bad, and the part where Jeremy drove one through a town was fantastic. (England has small roads in most towns, FYI. Very small, compared to a Hummer.)

Actually....something like an old M3A1 Stuart or the later M5 would be a better bet for London roads....#Shermans are just so hard to park..... ;) Though, legally, providing the weapons are not functional, there is absolutely no law against them being used on the roads... MOT test must be interesting though.....

'Sorry mate..it failed. Range finder is way off .....'

Living in London, I have grown to loathe the 4x4 ... they just don't fit here! I actually saw a guy driving a Hummer through rush hour traffic in Finsbury Park, taking up 2 lanes and REALLY P***ing off everyone!

Me....I ride a bike. No traffic jams, no queing, and her cute little fuel tank only costs £7 to fill up. For city travel, the big trail bike os your friend ;) .... oh..bugger...it's raining again... :(
