Ground Control For Free
This caught me rather unawares

http://www.fileplanet.com/section.aspx?s=98824

Looks like a full copy as a free legal download.

I'll grab this but I doubt I'm going to play it for a while. Not if MG wants to get anything done this week :)

Tried GC2, wasn't that good in my opinion. Developers once again focused on game engine instead of playable content.

I'm still waiting for them to E-mail me the key though. Hope this doesn't end up like the tribes thing where they ran out of keys.

I got the key during the install.

Doesn't work, though. I've tried a legit copy, a Torrent, and now this. They all give me an illegal op when trying to run it.

Guess I can never have too many games on this box.  What's this game about now? And why am I DLing it, other than it's free?

Yeah. Installed it an played it. The key pops up in a browser window when you install the game (It's only then that they e-mail you a copy too).

Worked fine for me so far. About to start the first mission. Think I'll leave it here rather than allowing myself to get sucked in.

Raa : It's a 3D RTS. Don't see much difference from other futuristic 3D RTS's so far but I've heard its a pretty good game so I figured it was worth having.

It's a lot different. You control Squads instead of individual units and you hand pick the units you want before the mission so there is no resource management, it means you have to be very tactical and try to keep your units alive. It's damn hard in places but still an awesome game (I love the artillery).
What frequency are you getting? Is it noise or sweet sweet music? - Refused - Liberation Frequency.

I love the sense of scale you get in GC. Artillery units, particular. Just seeing those shells go off into the distance...

Sounds like a nice idea :) I like the idea of not being able to shore up weaknesses by building what you need :)

I'm sure I'll enjoy this :)

I've played Ground Control (demo) a long time ago, but I remember it was excelent combat wise... I remember getting in one mission into a fight with my infantry against some tanks that took about 10 minutes! :D

Yeah.. it's like that sometimes. You have your infantry in some grass, or on a hill firing at the tanks. They can't hit your guys, and your Marine's guns barely even penetrate the tank's armor.

There's a few RTS like that. IMHO the best ones, by far.

Bwahahaha. Bloody n00bs.
Playing GC2 on the Dust City map, my opponent was so worried about controlling individual control points, that I was able to park 8 Ravager Terradynes, 4 Rocket Terradynes, varoius infantry and a repair truck on his landing zone, effectively cutting off his reinforcements. I had my Ravagers deployed in a box formation, with the Rockets and Engineers inside the box, and infantry all over the buildings surrounding the LZ. As soon as he noticed he was losing his LZ, he threw everything he had at it. The repair truck was able to keep a handle on the damage to the Ravagers, and the Rockets were protected by the Ravager's armor. His infantry got cut up by my snipers hiding in the buildings, and his air power, while impressive, got torn apart by the Rockets and SAM site (that he neglected to put a unit in). After that, all I would have had to do was take all the control points, but he quit once he realised he was screwed.

How is GC story wise?

Good, bad, medium or pratically nonexisting story?

This game's not bad... the debriefing is a little annoying, but I can always turn sound off, I suppose.  I like how it supports so many resolutions. :)
