Here are those background test pics you wanted me to post. Guess everyone will be happy now.  

 

 

 

 


These are just test missions I made to check how those things would look in game, and I'm as far away from an expert at Fred Background Creation as anyone can be, so expect much better results once the images themselves are approved and the real mission backgrounds get done.

Setekh did an excellent job on those for sure.  I'm going to have to take a good look at some of that and study it for more BWO BG's.

I already mentioned this to Styxx, but if you run FS2 with 512x512 texture resolution, those look even better.

How do you set FS2 up for that again? I just set up a Herc GTS Geforce 2 with 64 meg DDR ram so time to push the limits

Mmh... those BG are strange. I think the resolution isn't high enough to use them at this scale, unfortunately. but I just love the huge contrast between the white in the center, and the black of space.

Like I said above, using some registry tweaks, you can set your GeForce or ATI RADEON card to display the textures at full resolution.

On the BWO forum I posted a similar set of screen shots and I was using the high resolution texture display.  They will look fantastic, truly fantastic on any system configured for that.

Modifying the registr.  The info from Descent Networks FS1 Registry hack section can be applied to FreeSpace 2.

Don't attempt this if you have an older card.  GeForce and other like cards support this kind of texture resolution, but many others don't.

I'm quickly finding out however that my GF2 will not run at AGP4X on my motherboard...stupid VIA chipset!

This could help you to enable AGP4X
