How did you get into modding?
How and Why did you get into game modding? How did that drag you into Hard Light?

For me, it was seeking out information on Independence War 2, which brought me to the now defunct Iwar2 board here. Then I started screwing around with building my own ships and joined the community here.

PS: Yes, I live.

How did you get into modding?
Here we go again!

I first got into games and modding shortly after I bought a copy of HardWar off a friend of mine. Since the game is basicly un-moddable I just made ships for if tools were ever released. I had seen a copy or two of FS2 at On Cue, but never had the money to buy it. It was around Christmas time, I believe it was 2001, I saw a copy of FS1 and ST at Wal-Mart and got it then and there. I was soon on VBB talking and being flammed. I was soon pointed to HLP and about 2 months later I was here wondering about modding FS1 and wishing I had a decent computer to play FS2 on.

Man, have I risen....or would that be fallen?
I have big plans, now if only I could see them through.

How did you get into modding?
LOL Welcome back, was just thinking I hadn't seen you post for a while :)

I joined Sectorgame first, I think it was because of some graphics problem, and the fact that Interplay Helpline were about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Found my way here from there, and got nosying around the Modding section. I'd failed abysmally at modding Homeworld, but since I already had Lightwave, and Truespace 3, I thought I'd give it a go. The community were very helpful at both Sectorgame and here :) Thanks guys :D

How did you get into modding?
3D Exploration.

No, really.

Saw a render, already had a copy of Adobe Photoshop 5 LE lying around my house(no idea what for), got a hold of Lunarcell. Loaded up MT's released Apocalypse and rendered using 3D Exploration, put it over a planet. That was my first render.

Just went from there, got 3ds Max, rendered some with that, then got Lightwave, and now delving into modelling.

Hey, mik!  Welcome back!

I got started with Homeworld, and while I have few skillz(unlike your bad self) I enjoyed it.  I don't remember how I wandered into HLP.

How did you get into modding?
Well, I did create the 'White Box - Slayer of Cruisers' in Homeworld, but I don't think that counts ;)

I think FS2 is probably one of the best supported modding communities around to be honest, most of the Homeworld tools were ambiguous and I found them complex to use, the same for UT etc. Freespace 2 was a lot lot easier, and the communty were a lot more sympathetic to my sometimes obvious questions ;)

Not yet. I'm currently sleeping 4hrs a night, and working from before 8am to after 5pm every day, with three hours of a condensed college writing class every night (not distance ed this time). I'm having to write a full paper every week, and smaller writing assignments every day. This is the first time in months that I've actually taken some time to do something with my computer that I ENJOY. :(

I don't mod all that much, but I got here after looking for the makers of Derelict, because there installer didn't work on my system. I reached the VWBB, saw that some names from the Derelict webby were on the BWO one, and tried posting in my very bad form of Engrish. (It was really, really bad back then.)

Mik, good to see you again, but sorry to hear you have so little time.

I built a mech 3 league, and we wanted space combat to define how many dropships made it planetside...we opted for the fs2 demo....next thing you know i bought fs1, and then fs2 on ebay.  I don't play much mechwarrior anymore.

How did you get into modding?
i started modding descent 2 back in 1996, or was it '97. i used the descent mission builder that came with d2 and started making levels. but it took too long and i never made anything cool. i started doing textures (im ms paint mind you) but i still couldnt make my levels look cool. i downloaded a mission that had new robots and i was like cool! so i downloaded polytron and made like 6 or 7 robots and a new player ship. i never released my mod due to a hard drive crash. after that i started with modding quake and i still mess around with quake c form time to time. then quake levels, which i am also no good at. from there i got into freespace 1 modding and when freespace 2 came out i already had ships to put into it. i most recently played around with freelancer but im pretty much stuck in the freespace universe.

and yes, i have no life

How did you get into modding?
In the days of my wild youth, I couldn't think of a good reason to start up a FS fansite with that Alex Avery fellow. In fact, it turned out there were plenty of good reasons why not to, but I just couldn't think of any. :p I'm glad I didn't though, it was worth all the trouble of this path to have all you guys around. :)

How did you get into modding?
Well i dont do much/any ship modelling for Freespace, but HLP got me into 3D modelling and rendering in the first place...  So i blame you lot for all my wasted days infront of a screen :)

How did you get into modding?
I think it was when I learned how to table mod FS1. I had a Ulysses with a 3000m/s AB, and slowly went on from there. I learned to texture switch, then to do small geometry switches, then to model, and then most recently UV mapping and texturing.

How I got to HLP is... well.. I dunno. Getting banned from the VBB sent me to the VWBB, which then led to me finding HLP.  I think.

How did you get into modding?
I got banned from the VBB and WS, and needed a place to harass the WS people. Then I just kinda stayed and started half-doing stuff.

an0n: Speaking about bannage, would it be possible for you to just, you know, hit the unbann option when you're accidentily looking at my NW profile?

The question which plagues me constantly, as I toss and turn in bed at night thinking of the most sorrowful happenstance of your exlcusion from the NW forums is: Why the hell would I want to unban you?
