Proving Grounds - the most frustrating mission in all of Freespace. :doubt:

You have to get the Aquitaine out with >50% hull.

And you must play on at least Medium. I think.

Difficulty makes no difference.

If I recall, only FS1 has 'difficulty' requirements to earn medals.  In FS2, there is no required 'minimum' difficulty setting.  Then again, I never play below medium anyway.  Very easy and easy are only good for playtesting.  Playing the main FreeSpace 1,2 campaigns on Hard is not bad at all (like Heroic in Halo.)  Then again, there are those campaigns where I'm not brave enough to go to Hard.

FS2 does have difficulty requirements in some cases.

Has anyone finished the campaign on insane?

Yes, ChronoReverse -- It's not hard.

^ Definately a gamer with faster reactions than I. :)

It's not even reactions, O_o I haven't finished it because the missions where you have to protect things, generally your wingmen die and you have to protect everything yourself == not making it in time.

Crazy...

Learn to use the AI a little more interactively (I don't know if you do or don't).

The AI SUCK when ordered to;
"Form on My Wing" (=Suicide)
"Cover Me"
"Protect Target"
"Disable Target"
"Disarm Target"
"Destroy subsystem on target"
"Destroy Target"

By Suck I mean - they don't defend themselves as well as they would.

Easy ways around this, is to order them to your objective with protect target, then tell them to engage.
Set them up well in terms of weapons know what you're doing in the mission and have them in ships they work better in (AI work best in Eri for obvious reasons).

Other effective methods, is to let the AI Bomb.
This was something BD and I worked out works well online, in missions like Rebel's Bluff and the mission with the Sathy in.
ALL the AI in Ursas, loaded up with a pure bombing loadout, whilst me/him or us goes in the heaviest fighter available and just pwn fighters.
We come out with all caps dead + 100 odd kills, because the AI are specialised on a task it means you can ignore that task and do other stuff, but the AI can only do, simple, stupid taskes - like bombing, which takes no skill.
You, on the other hand are needed to do the high skill jobs, like interception and general combat superiority.

Which is strange, since that's pretty much the same strategy I used.  They still tend to die right after dropping the first load (if at all).

And any mission centered around defending targets was an exercise in frustration since I'm ALWAYS the lone survivor trying to defend everything and getting killed when a few of those dozens and dozens of missiles goes up my tailpipe.

....No aspect or fire and forget missile should ever...hit a player... :/

Just turn on a 90 degree angle from the missile and hold up or down and hit your burners when it comes close.
Don't even need burners if you do some stuff..
don't need CMs for any of it...

If I was only trying to dodge the missiles none of them would hit me.

But if I'm trying to bust my ass over to the poor little transport being targeted by a wing of mara's, please excuse me if I don't dodge quite as well.
