the Source Code Project we recently relesed
version 3.6 wich was our first HT&L enabled offical build, it went through a long intisive debugging proces, but there were only so many hardware configurations available for us to test on, and one important bug did get through, that being when playing on "very easy" you can't jump out (this was fixed very soon after it was found, look for recent builds for this fix). also due to some driver issues specular mapping stoped working on ATI cards useing driver version 4.5 and later, I hope for us to get vertex and pixel shaders before too long so this shouldn't be an issue for too much longer.

we are constantly posting development builds for your playing enjoyment (and to hunt for bugs) once you have installed 3.6 you can go to
the recent builds forum and get the lattest and greatest in terms of FSO developments (note; these builds have a tendency to be buggier than the offical relese builds, though this is part of why we post them, for you to help us find and track the bugs). recent improvements over 3.6 include

Damage Decals
Texture Compression
a number of internal restructureings that hopefully make the game run smoother
and a number of mod enhancements that have yet to have people take advantage of.
keep in mind a number of the improvements made require altered data that is not always supplied (though usualy is), most of the people roaming the forum are modders and have a good understanding of how to implement the changes needed to activate new features (and they do to make mods that you would need to download to take advantage of). if the environment changes so that more unfamiliar people are asking for data we will likely adapt to acomodate such a change.
