I recently stumbled across this forum while checking out the PA forums, they had a post about donating to buy the license from Interplay.

This got me thinking...where had I heard the name Freespace before...then I remebered I owned a copy of Freespace 2.

When I first got it to be honest I thought it was crap...and put it in its box and never let it see the light of day again. Well checking out this whole forum and seeing what a solid group of fans it has, I decided to give it another go.

I went to the closet and headed to the old game box stack.

Much to my chagrin, it's GONE...i don't know where..and I don't know when...all my other old games are there.

This makes me sad, especially since I can't even buy this game anymore(eBay scares me)..anyone else in Canadia know where I can get this game.

I go to the Freespace download page, enter the code...click ok...and have know been sitting for 10 minutes waiting for something to happen....

As I recall, the HOTU version had to be pulled. The Underdogs is an 'abandonware' site, which gets away with releasing software like that where the owners of hte rights no longer have an interest.

An 'anniversary' type release of FS2 was made recently, which pushed the HOTU version over the edge of legality and into the realm of Warez...and lawsuits.

Last time I looked on E-bay for a copy of FS2, they were going for around £20! Amazing for such an old game

There's a lot of traffic at HOTU, it's basically the old games site. Give it another try- after turning off all firewalls, download managers, etc. as recommended.

Underdogs and Fractux put it back up as soon as Interplay started to look like they were going under.

When you get Freespace 2, try out the SCP...
and try to get your hands on Freespace1 to get the story, once you get freespace 1, you'll fall in love with 2. Because you understand more, Think if you watched the 3rd matrix before the first.  OMG this movies sucks!!!!

Stop me if I say something idiotic, but due to the licence agreement that say you can distribute FS2 to friends and agreements freely, wouldn't grabbing the ISO by, for exemple, the eMule network, wouldn't this be a better option ?

You're in a gray area there, but if you can get all 3 isos in a reasonable time, you should be fine. I got it that way, it took three damn weeks.

In addition you never really know what you're getting with E-mule. I've not encountered any fakes but it is possible.

HotU and the Freespace FTP is a known quantity.

Garris are you using getItRight/ any other download manager? HotU hates them with a passion.

I think there are a few ISO, etc, copies of FS flying about simply because of the HOTU download, anyways - y'know on P2P & the like.

Although, is FS2 actually still on sale?  I thought the interplay site was down.......
