Hey there, im new.
my favourite game is freespace2 and when i saw ur mod i digged my copy of freespace 2, and was about to install it. but before i did, i wanted to download all the required filesfor scp.

and then i discovered a new mod that ports the freespace1/silent threat to the freespace2 engine. i was excited ... so i searched my copy of freespace 1 ... for hours and didnt find. then i saw the vp's files are in the download section so no need freespace cd's(2 if im correct).

i began downloading the freespace 2 vp's files along with the new effect's, i read somewhere that is playable with the scp , that can be cool. after finishing downloading all of those massive files, i found i have lots and lots of vps files and i dont know where to put them.

1.so this is my question's where i put all those voice/briefing vp's files that i download for the port?
2. i also downloaded a new nebula effects.... came with alot of tga... what to do with them...


p.s So sorry for my poor english, and i didnt posted it in the freespace port mod fourm because its seems dead compare to this fourm...

Firstly welcome to HLP.

The answer to your first question is you put the voice/breifing files in the main FreeSpace directory (eg C:\Games\FreeSpace2).

The answer to your second question is you put them into the effects folder. (eg C:\Games\FreeSpace2\data\effects)

No need to apologize, just a quick note, in case a similar situation comes up again.

You'll need to extract all your files out of their rars of course, but VPs go in the main FS2 directory. If you've got the Nebulae as separate files, which is how they're coming at the moment I believe, you'll need to put them into data/effects, and the stars.tbl into data/tables. This should all be in the various readmes if you're still having trouble.

A word of warning though - not all campaigns are designed to use the new nebs. The 32bit V ones will enhance older campaigns, and the main ones, but the really nice, brand new ones only work with a very small number, LM 4 is one I know for sure, and probably a few of the other recently released campaigns.

Oh, texture, glow and shine maps all go into data/maps, Interface art into data/interface. It's all pretty self explanatory.

ok so where is the COMMAND BRIEFING ANIMATIONS belong to (wich folder)?

You need to put the High Res texture maps, Shine maps and Glow maps into c:\games\Freespace2\data\textures

Not sure whether the Interface art goes in \effects or \hud, but I think it's the effects folder :)

ok now im all messed up... he sayed shine/glow belong to maps

Is this stopping you from playing FS2 at the moment Fear? If so I suggest you do this for the time being.

Put any file (apart from .vp files) which you can't figure out the location for in \data. The game will find them there quite happily.

Then as you get advice from the people where you can figure out which subfolder to move them to.

The subfolders of \data are there to keep things tidy and prevent mods degenerating into a complete mess. You can actually get away with just shoving everything into the data folder but it will probably cause you problems later if you don't tidy up eventually :)

It is stopping me from playing in this moment.
and yet after all those explantion im still confuse.
because some of the files i need to put in the main dir... while the other in data... what/wich files.... ?

Any file ending in .vp goes in the main folder. Any file with another extension should go in sub folder of freespace2\data. The problem is figuring out which one.

For the time being you can simply shove them all in \data itself but that's a rather ugly way of doing it and can cause you problems later when you try other mods.

I'm thinking about re-writing my FAQ tonight to deal with some of the newer problems people are encountering so if you're still having problems that may help :)

But they all end with .vp. even the glow... so every file to the main folder???? im getting crazy here....

 
If it ends in VP, it should go into the main folder, no questions asked.

Read that manual, it's a bit out of date, and meant for manual dl'ng everything, but if you just read it it'll make a lot of things clearer.

Yes, all vp files into the main folder.  Unless if they are campaign specific, if they are they go into data\(campaign name) but that's only with FS_Open.

but its like 7-8 files.
so to put all of them in the main folder? including the glow/shine/voice/breifing animation and so on?

by the way the port file is also vp... mean main folder too?:)

 
The FS2 port should go into /fs2/PORT/ just to make sure. To use it, copy your pilot dir to /fs2/PORT/data/pilots/ , and tell the launcher the mod dir is /fs2/PORT/.

And yes, if it is a non-mod VP file, it should go into the main dir, nomatter how many files there are. If it is a mod VP file it should go into /fs2/MOD/data/ , and then you should tell teh launcher the mod dir is /fs2/MOD/.

so.... ok .
all the files inclouding glow/shine/voice will go to the main dir.

now u talked about setting my launcher to start with the port.
now wich launcher are u talking about? the one with scp?

i got scp 3.6 didnt installed yet.... with what launcher its coming with?
