I've used an absolutely wicked keyboard combination untill I had to switch to split keyboards.  Now I have managed to have some of the flight controls on my left hand along with the comm functions and targeting, a very select few keys on the other side of the split, and use my mouse's extra buttons for weapon switching and precision flight control.  Now if Microsoft will ever release the new version of Intellipoint which brings back custom-button mapping, I could make full use of the scrolly-rocker wheel my mouse has.  All in all, it works quite well.

I've actually never owned an actual flight-stick style joystick.  I've owned a gamepad to play Final Fantasy 7 though.

Yet another newbie (to these forums, at least :) ) jumps into the fray...

I'm currently using a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro; I'll probably switch to the Saitek Cyborg or X45 (if I can find a wireless keyboard/mouse combo that I like; my keyboard shelf just ain't big enough :( ) though.
