Have any of you ever played the original Marathon, or for that matter Marathon 2? Me and a friend played LAN Marathon on the hardest difficulty mode, and we had some fun.

I love their level names. "Smells like Napalm, tastes like Chicken!"

I remember playing it when I was a little kid on my uncle's Mac. I also remember getting stuck about 20 minutes into the game, cause I didn't know where to go next so I just wondered around.

...thats about it.

Marathon 2 is fun, Durandal cracks me up:

I still have the mac CD around here, got it when I was a little kid. I barely played it though, I sucked at FPS games.

... I even made a gatling gun mod once and replaced some monsters: created Aliens and facehuggers ... had to much time back then...

Hahaha, Marathon games were classic. I loved them. I'm old enough to just remember playing it. Used to have 3 macs and me, my bro, and my dad would all play at once. Great times :)

I've played all 3 of the marathons. :) I heard that Halo is supposedly based upon the Marathon series but I hardly think so.

Yes, it is. In fact, the Halo Assault Rifle is the mimic of the Marathon 2 assault rifle. It runs about the same basis: Badass Space Marine, stupid and weak AI team mates, bad-mother aliens, hostile environtment, etc. They have similar weapons, IE, Pistol, Assault Rifle, Plasma Pistol, etc. I find Marathon games to be very fun, and actually thought about someone making a more recent version of it, IE, mod for Doom 3 or UT2K4, perhaps... ;7

I usually just wait for these things to come out. They are making a Doom 3 System Shock 2 MOD, where the SS2 game gets put into the Doom 3 engine. Prepare to CRAP YOUR PANTS! ;7

I even found said mod again - just took me some time to convert pictures from a Mac HFS cd ... btw, don't get shocked it's from 1995-96 and hand-drawn in photoshop (didn't have a 3d software), took some time to do animations that way...

anyone here made an EARLIER mod for a game? :D

I remember a friend of mine from school telling how much this game roxxored (well, that's not exactly what he said but... ;) ) and when he finally got around to showing it to me All I could think about was how much better Dark Forces or Descent was...

hmmm, well, I was never a Mac guy, can you tell?

Just don't forget that it came out on the Mac when there was only Doom 1-2 on the PC... no Duke Nukem 3D, no Quake, etc yet - so pretty good and high-res for its time ;)

Mjoninir Mk4 power armor..

think marathon's setting a precursor to halo, it's all over the place in halo itself. (little things that tie it all in)

The one thing it had that Descent and Doom didnt have, was an actual story, and again, actual teammates. Teammates and story are what I enjoy.

Mmm. Marathon. Not as pretty as HALO, but much less repetitive. And Durandal did indeed rock. I wanna be a psycho AI.

Not anywhere near so cool as Blood, though. "Sonofa***** must pay!"

I seriously thought that, although Marathon was low in graphics, it rocked a whole bunch. I had more thrills in that than doom. Honestly though, if someone was to port it over to another, more graphically pleasing game, then be my guest. :D
