It's been a while since I posted on the forum but since I'm back and working to improve the visual appearance of the babylon project in all areas I have a few ideas as to features I'd like to see implemented into the game.
First of all can I say that if the current features of the game are implemented correctly the improvements are fantastic. This game truly has the potential to look a very modern game. I was playing in 1280x1024x32 with 4xAA and 8xAF - whatever you did to acheive this is fantastic, it worked like a dream. The resolution and sharpness of the games gave it a new sense of realism which I fully intend to exploit with TBP. Myself and IPAndrews will be implementing new features in the coming months so watch out for some stunning pictures.
Anyway, back on topic:
A few ideas I'd like to see implemented:
Shadows - picture the scene, in your fighter about to make a pass on a large capital ship, another wave flys by the side of the ship and you see the reflections projected onto the side of the ship, created from the position of the sun. This would add an incredible sense of depth to the scene.
Glow effect - The babylon project uses no ambient light to simulate the true look of space. What would be realy nice is increased weapon glow effects and implementation. The freespace 2 lighting calculation is pretty crude and would benefit from an overhaul. Imagine being on the dark side of a ship and your weapons fire highlighting the side of the ship as you shoot a plasma round down it's side. Nice.
New AI types - obvious, will discuss in the future.
What do you coders things, any of these things possible?
