Hello all first off let me say hello to all thoese who did not see my intro posts in the desktop thread in the genreal HLP fourm. Second let me explain what this is all about. As you might of guessed or read in my formentioned posts I am working on a FS2 campaign/mod with SCP.

Now first of all i'm still in the early stages but I have learned it's never too early to get some feedback. Secondly this mod is NOT in the FS2 unviersie/storyline. It is my own universe/storyline that I am still developing. Thridly i'm not a modeller thats just one thing I can not do very well.

Now on to the point, i've done re-textures and new textures for many mods but this is my first in fs2. So the core of this thread is too get your opinon on how it looks. Please keep in mind the forementioned things in mind when giving your opinon. It's not supposed to look fs2 cannon ;) At least with this ship. But anyway on to the screenshots and specs of the ships. And yes this is the warlock, but the only similarty is the model. Please give me your input/feedback but please be constructive thanks. :)

Too plain, really, one tiled texture is waay to plain.

And quite low-poly too,, for a ship it's size.

Devestator need:
- more difrent texstures
- more polys
and it reminds me Warlock from Inferno mod

I've never seen th Warlock. but I quite like it. Looks more like an early pre-Orion ship to me.

Erm, it IS the Warlock from INF. He's reskinned it. :p The original is done in the middle-grey Deimos tex, with windows on the superstructure, IIRC...

It is, as kasperl said, in need of lots more textures. The thing is >4k long! If you're gonna use a tex like that, it needs to be much smaller, and higher resolution, so the thing looks as big as it actually is....

It's probably not a great model to try and reskin in any similar way, to be honest. Try using an entirely different texture. With such a high hull strength (a bit too high IMO - that's harder than a Sathanas!), you could try and make it look like it's made of some exotic material (rather than steel plating).

This is just a random idea, but try and make a texture like the big ships on the Independence Day film - dark and heavy-looking.

Thanks for the feedback/suggestions thus far, based on some of these suggestions so far I have made some modifcations to the main texture of the devestator. I split three screenshots into one for this including a upclose shot from a fighter.

The basic design of the texture hasn't changed much but the size is up from 128x128 to 256x256 also I added a blurness like effect around the edges to try and give it a more 'roundness' like look.

As for polys as I said I'm not very good at modeling, and IMO the warlock is the closest ship to what the devestator would look like. So i hope that anwsers that.

As for the hull strength being too high, it's true but considering the Devestator is the only cap ship for the TE it makes sense, that and all ships are getting a boost in hull strength. If your curious of the results of the 'test mission' you see in this screenshot the devestator does get destory with only the collosuss survining with about 1-2% hull. It's quite a fight ;) You should see these bad baby's blow up, it's one hell of sight, just don't be anywhere near it when it goes *heh*

Please give more feedback/ideas/opninons I appreciate them all, and now the ss:

Guys, he's a n00b and is still learning.  Let him work on other people's work for a while as a learning experience.  I bet we've all once done that to improve ourselves at something!

Quickshot, there are countless texturing tutorials out there.  Grab one, and experiment like hell.  That's how I got my (still awful) skills are texturing.  But hey, with that determination, you may just end up somewhere!

Also, not to be too picky, I think "devestator" should be spelled "devastator".

Textures needs heaps of work. Try to picture it in your mind and add various things liks different shades and shadows to add depth.The ship needs heaps of little windows and other mechanical typ parts. And as Rampage sugest experiment like hell, its the best way to learn. :)

He's right, though.  Regardless of textures, the Warlock is and always will be a hideous monstrosity of a ship.

With different textures, it's still the Warlock.  I have to agree with aldo on its general appearance, though I do want to point out the relative age of that model.  If you want to learn how to (re)texture, learn to model.  You'll need to be able to adjust UVs if you plan on changing anything significant, and once you're there you're better off modeling for yourself.

I have made some more changes to the two main textures, I have also changed the inital design of the texture considerably and the arrangment of how it looks. Another collage ss is bellow for your viewing pleasure.

Thank you for your feedback/suggestions/comments but please keep them constructive and please rember the ship model may be the warlock but this is 1 not like the warlock in appearnce/implmentation and 2 this mod IS NOT the freespace unvierse.

My only problem with that model is its radar panel. Not the geometry, its textures(for a change).
