Any options for replacing the FS2 intro movie?
Hi there guys!

At the moment, I'm working on a new mod for Freespace 2, continuing the "Revenge: Final Conflict" Storyline (RFC is my first mod) and this time it shall be better than ever. I'd like to make therefore a new intro.

Do you know any tools and possibilites for including a avi or whatever type movie in freespace startup?

Greetings,

Dark

PS: Just like usual, I excuse for any mistakes ;) (Me german! *gg*)

You'd need something like 3D studio Max or Lightwave to make a new intro movie.......and they're pretty pricey.

Actually I was wondering that myself...
Right now any trailer I make gets to be like 340mb for a few minutes of gameplay???

So If I can get it working right so it gets to be no bigger than 40 mb, How to I get FS2 to play the avi I finally decide on using?

I thought cutscenes were still out of game chosen things cause of code problems?

Taylor's build fixed the problem. Movies work fine now. A movie called intro.avi placed in either your Freespace2 folder or your mod dir will play instead of the avi version of the FS2 intro. If you want to add them to a different point in the campaign simply use the cutscene box in the campaign editor.

As for the huge filesizes most likely you've got an uncompressed avi there. Download Virtual dub and recompress it.

SFN-Darkwarrior - You have two choices on how to make a new cutscene.

1. Make an animation in a 3D program like Truespace, Lightwave or 3DS Max (Check out the modding section of my FAQ or the wiki for a list of these). The drawback of this method is that it take ages to learn how to use a 3D program so unless you already know how to use one and were simply asking how to get the resulting data into Freespace you'll probably find this hard/time consuming.

2. Record it from the game using FRAPS (search on google) or a program like it. The quality of your cutscene won't be as good but since it's obvious that you already understand FRED this will be pretty easy for you to arrange. However since you're using the game engine rather than a dedicated rendering program things won't look as good as when done with a 3D program. The results can still be impressive though. Do a search for Singh's in-game cutscenes if you want to see how impressive they can be.

THX a lot, kara!

I really hoped there is this possibility! I think, I'll make the cutscene with fraps, it's not the best, but enough ;)

oh, and for a movie, increase the brightness on your shinemaps, it makes it look more cinematic-ish
