Argh! I just got my new HDD and now my PC reboots for no reason.
No matter if Windows is running or not. It even happened while I made some changes in the Bios.

It's no heat problem. It doesn't matter what I do with the PC. I can play games for hours without a crash. In most cases the system crashes during the boot routine.

This is just to weird for me, I don't get the problem.

AMD Duron@Athlon@2,2 Ghz (Same problem @standard)
Abit NF7-S
512MB 400Mhz Infeneon Ram
Geforce 4 Ti 4200 8X 128 MB
Hitachi 80GB IDE
Samsung 1614C 160GB SATA @ Silicon Image Raid onboard
LG DVD Ram
LG DVD Drive

Any ideas?

It's not a power problem, is it?  Maybe your PSU is overloaded if the new HD has a higher power use.

Could also maybe be your connection to the HDD itself...if it's loose in someway.

The PSU is new.
But I had the same thought as you.

So I disconected my DVD drives and removed the sound card and my TV card.
But it still happend :(

I'll recive another PSU today just to be sure. But I don't think it's the PSU.

BTW thanks :)

Edit: The connection looks ok. The cable itself could be damaged... but this wouldn't cause the PC to crash. (Well maybe in Windows, but probably not in Bios)

Maybe the connection to the new HD?  Have you tried using a bog standard IDE connection (if possible)?

Probably possible, but I need an adapter for this, which I don't have.

Come on, if you want high res textures you'll have to help me ;)

Is there anything known about Silicon image Raid controllers causing crashes?

this happens when you're NOT running windows too?  wow.  so you could be sitting in the BIOS, and it'd just restart?

Was about to ask the same question, does it just reboot infinitely, or can you get into Windoze?

Speaking of which, which version of Win are you running?  Assuming you're running windows.

You don't by any chance have both HD's set to master do you?  Oh wait, it's a RAID.  That could concievably be the problem, but if it ever loads into windows than I would rule that one out.  Is it reproducable, or does it happen at random?

Well it looks like the  PSU is to blame.

Although it had enough power, it is defect in another way.

Thanks for the help :)

Ah, I've had that before methinks.  Was the voltage iffy (y'know, dipping too low / high at times) perchance?

Yep, but I thought it wasn't that bad.

The PSU I had before was worse at this issue. :)
