Impressed by the amount of Bill Hicks stuff on there. I tend to burn it to listen to in the car. But only on motorway journeys. I tend to get strange looks at traffic lights otherwise :D

The guys been dead for what, ten years now? He's still the sharpest, freshest and most cynical comedian on the block and the relevance of his material STILL, shows how insightful the guy was.

Is it an embarassing thing to know most of those MP3's word for word?  :nervous:

what kind of music do you listen to?
I'll listen to almost anything if I think it's good.
Some poppy stuff, classical, ragtimes, games music (Like from C&C, Sonic, Doom...), metal (Well, anything with chunky riffs and crazy screaming shredding guitar solos! Although I try to avoid things with annoying singers... thank smeg Dream Theatre do instrumental stuff...), demoscene music (e.g. www.scenemusic.net)

what kind of music do you listen to?
It's more a case of what I don't listen to.

  • Femal pop singers with relationship problems - Dido, Joss Stone, Natasha Beddingfield, Nelly Fur.... gah, I'm not going to bother looking up the spelling.  Shut up, please.
  • Metal. Its not the 90's anymore.  And 'Nu meta'l is for kids.
  • American "I've got more guns than you" rap.  50 Cent for instance.  I wish I'd gone to see him at the Leeds festival, and boo him off the stage with the rest of the croud.  Fortunatly for Mr Cent, I went to see a proper artist/preformer play at that time.
  • Overly succesful bands.  Getting played every 10 minutes on the radio kinda puts me off their songs.

Aside from these general factors I'll listen to any sort of genre and enjoy it, just depends on the artist/act.

A few ways a band could earn my respect would be:

  • Having decent songs, for a start.  I like something new and experimental, but still listenable.
  • Must be good live.  I've seen my favourite band 12 times, (with tickets for the 13th, 14th and 15th gig in october) - and I've only been even mildly dissapointed twice - once because the venue seemed far too small and you literally couldn't move in the crowd, and once when they played a record store recently and you couldn't see the band unless u were at the front becuase there wasn't a stage.

Live, is how I enjoy my music most, it can make or break a band in my opinion.

  • Mainstream bands are a bit of a turn-off as i've mentioned, but they should be acssessible too, there's less point in liking a band I recon if you can't even get their CD the internet.

Well its a tough list but I'm not going to devote my precious ear-time to anyone.
A few bands who fit the bill would include The Super Furry Animals, The Cooper Temple Clause, and Biffy Clyro (who are all British bands, if anyone hasn't heard of them).

Ricky Grover kicks all their asses.

He's the only person in the world who can get away with making midget jokes.

All 28st of him lumbers on stage wearing a black leather jacket and he kicks off his set with: "I find black to be very slimming".

It's not what bands to listen but instead of what songs/musics to listen to, only 2 bands so far have many songs/musics I like... that is the Beatles and Queen.

beatspete, listen to Dido - Here with me :p
"Closing the Box" - a campaign in the making :nervous:

Ever heard of Reindeer Section?  Sort of Scottish indie 'supergroup'.  I'm still trying to track down their album for less than the overpriced cost it is in Virgin Buchanan St.
