What is YOUR favorite type of mission, and why?
I'd rather have a good 6 vs 15 dogfight, than some weird 45 vs 81 dogfight I have absolutely no importance in.

And the FS2 retail-ish (Alpha) 1 vs 35 (stupid AI crap) dogfights are just lame.

Although the changed AI code has supposedly "unbalanced" all old missions, it helped a lot (for me) to make the game more fun. You're only really on the enjoyable edge with FS1 or of course custom campaigns like HomeSick, TVWP or Shrouding the Light, where the AI actually can get dangerous for you :)
Modern man is the missing link between ape and human being.

What is YOUR favorite type of mission, and why?
No, no. Pratically even, huge dogfights are fun, especially if you are skilled at commanding your wingmen. Watching thirty fighters band together to mob a single bomber wing is awe-inspiring.

Even more awe-inspiring is watching the thirty fighters get cut down by thirty other fighters while they're busy killing off the bombers :D

You let my cats down, Lightspeed. You cut them deep. :D

The Trebuchet bug doesn't just "unbalance" some missions, it makes them completly impossible. Have you ever tried to first mission of Warzone using SCP? It is impossible.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

My favourite missions are the ones that invoke an emotional response from the player because of their story. Some examples from the FS2 campaign would be In the Lions Den (dive! dive! dive! - - - *kaploop*, yo I just filled my pants playing Freespace!), or Their Finest Hour ("you call that a fleet command?"). Typically these missions are rare because of their pivotal importance to the story.

Non-canon examples would include something like the dream from Derelict or some of the ending stages of Homesick.

Why wouldn't it be an option? I didn't post a list of options. You can just post your favorite type of mission.

I like missions where they start off one way, then circumstances change and you're forced to adapt, and then circumstances change again and you have to adapt again. Long missions rock. ;)
- Eddie Kent Woo, Setekh, Steak (of Steaks), AWACS. Seriously, just pick one.
HARD LIGHT PRODUCTIONS, now V3.0. Bringing Modders Together since January 2001.
THE HARD LIGHT ARRAY. Always makes you say wow.

What is YOUR favorite type of mission, and why?
Long missions? Yes, those are fun.

Except for this one I played in Inferno (which overall, I though rocked) where the mission is twenty minutes long, and the last two minutes are the hardest.

Thus, you die, you start all over, and have to make it through the eighteen tedious minutes to get to the last two that are the most new and intense.

And what if you lose again? :D

A good example of a classical long mission:

The third mission of Freespace 1. Escorting a convoy...some weak Vasudan attack craft jump in...pop em' easily...everything looks good...suddenly...SHIVANS! HOLY CRAP! EVERYONE'S DEAD! I'M GOING DOWN! MAYDAY! MAAAAAYDA--eagrttyjaaaaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeee

Very well done. Good point, Setekh.

That I'm guessing would be the last one over Earth. Which I agree, took a great many efforts to overcome.

Yup. That's the one.

Especially with some SCP builds... the balance gradually got thrown off.  We're trying to fix it, so in the meantime, make sure to play it using FS2 retail. :)

Er... the third mission of FS1 is the attack on a Vasudan cargo depot.  Do you mean the fifth, with the GTSC Plato?  While I agree it's a good mission, it's not particularly long.

The longest FS1 mission, I think, was Exodus.  Fifteen-twenty minutes of escorting convoy ships around, and blowing up two cruisers to boot.  Much fun. :)

What is YOUR favorite type of mission, and why?
Isn't the first mission defending the GTC Orff, the SECOND striking the depot, and the third with the plato?

EDIT: Not counting training, of course. :D

STUPID! STUPID!

Forgive my stupidity, Goober.

Oh, and good luck with TVWP. Can't wait for that one :D

Not sure if I deserve to play it...but I will anyways! :ha:
