hey i  just tried FS open with the old rendering eng and i got this  error  cut and pasted below :

Error: Error parsing 'rank.tbl'
Error code = 5.

now i think it is kinda funny that it says its running off of drive H:\ when i only  have  drive  C:\

what  causes this  problem and how  do i fix it?

README for the Old Engine Build

IMPORTANT: Only use retail vp files.
IMPORTANT: This build ONLY supports the player files like retail FS2 does! That means that it will not work with player files created with the 22082004 fsopen release (or later releases)!

uhh first  i dont have any SCP Vp's  in the  folder and so far all  of the  SCP builds i tryed  dont work
i have a  500 mhz  celeron  ATI Expert 2000  video card 192 megs of ram and so on....

is it in the same folder as your main freespace 2 exe.

The cause of this error must be a wrong table file. check if you have any scp table files (or media vp's) installed.

the  drive H:/ refers to the drive on my computer, which contains the FS2 source code

where else would i put it?

well it isn't since thats the error you get when its not in the right directory.

Could it by any chance be that the registry isn't set up for the vanilla exe's?  I.e. needs to have the default (non-SCP) launcher run once?  It's an old-engine build, but a lot of us don't necessarily still have our "original" install.

You'd be surprised at the number of people I've corrected who put the SCP in a seperate folder from FS2 so as to keep things tidy
