Mozilla Firefox reaches 1,000,000 downloads in 5 days.
The browser, which I am a proud user of, reached 1,000,000 downloads this tuesday, five days after release, and that mind ya, is the beta version.

Bye-bye monopoly.

  and deservedly so.

Sadly, still only a miniscule percentage of the market.

Just checked a non-tech-oriented site I admin; here's the browser stats for September:

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Yeah Firefox!  The only open source program I've financially supported, but one I'm very proud to have supported.

Naah. I've got four different virus scanners, with multiple copies on each of my drives. All of them auto-scan my CPU when booting up. They auto-update at 10:00 PM.

I'm freakin' invincible!

It's kinda funny, Blitz is mentioning the only open source program he uses.

In my case, I have a small list of the "only" closed source applications I run on this box. :D

Eh? What are saying? Am I using other open source programs without knowing it? Your post is a little confusing, Kamikaze.

I'm saying it's amusing that while you're indicating you use very few open source programs (probably true for most people here), I can count the closed source programs I use on this computer on one hand. :p

:wtf:

Are you aware that using more than one anti-virus or firewall software will lead to problems. These softwares are using low level drivers for example, which may conflict and cause god knows what problems. If a virus is found, it may very well be that none your virus scanners can actually do anything about it.

Best description for it would be that you have ten very hungry dogs and then you throw a piece of food in middle of them. They start fighting over that piece of food.

So using more than one anti-virus software will actually weaken your protection.

And I bet you're no more protected than someone with a bit of common sense who runs FireFox / Thunderbird with no virus protection is.

Besides, boasting that IE is great is like saying that Windows 95 is great. Yeah, it may work for you in your situation. But that certainly doesn't make it "great".

EDIT: Err... just to clarify - I'm not saying that you lack common sense. I'm just saying that using a bit of common sense while browsing with Firefox and emailing w/ Thunderbird can afford one a very good level of security.

I use the virus scanners to protect me from downloaded files. I tried using Firefox...but...uh...I had some FREAKY problems.

Besides, my CPU IS invincible. Just you try and hack me!*
