Use at least some of the existing Orion textures, but grey-scaled. For the hull texture (i.e. the blue one which you;ve replaced with that 'jaggy' one), what you do is get a burn or black spraypaint tool... create a blacked out region on the texture (several is better).
Select it with a colour-mask, this should select the pure black inner region (the shaded exterior should be unselected).
The select a Shivan texture, and paste it into the selected region. It should look like it has been sunk into the hull, which is pretty cool if it works.
For example; (5 minutes work, no quality control

But you get the idea)


EDIT; Should point out, you;re best using a brush with a big gradient... I used a burn tool here, which had a sharp gradient, so there's a sharp transition between the filled in Shivan bits and the original hull texture.
