I hear you..
I liked the first Gundam Seed (rumors of a sequel)...
The problem I had was original gundam was a good series buthard to watch cause I was an adult bythe time I tracke dit down and well it was VERy dated animation. BUT the story was good and kep my interest. Then I missed 0080 (infantry I think), but I heard it was excellent. I saw 0083 stardust memories and WOW!!! To me that is teh ultimate gundam series. you had mechs, fleets of capitol ships, colonies being sacrificed, secret super space weapons...Oh yeah and a love story thrown in there

Then it got watered down with G Wing... (AKA "Gundam for chicks") Obviously they were trying to get more female demographics, I think they succeeded. I mean I watched it all,but ONLY inthe hopes that it would get better! The mechs were excellent, the story barely tolerable, but god all the teenage ANGST!!! At least it wasn't teh sailor moon characters!
G Fighter was an even greater departure fromt eh original universe. It could have been a basic martial arts-revenge story with mecha thrown in, no NEED for the use of the GUNDAM name at all!!!
Now the last one is the WORST offender, SD Gundam... (PUKES) My God! The sacralige is astounding. These are machines that bring nothing but death and destruction while very few pin all their hopes of a new tomorrow on and these idiots pervert that vision and make them "KWAII" (cute)... HELLO, this is supposed to reflect teh horrows of unbridled war and the effects on both millitary and civillans, not mindless Saturday morning babysitting for latchkey kids. (BAKAS!)
Anyway I saw half of the second series of Yamato (The comet Empire) I found it almost as entertaining as the first one. I never knew there was a third series (The Bolar Wars) cause they never showed it on American tv (like they did the first two).
How would the GTVA like to wake up one morning to find a missile had "accidently" hit our sun and now pretty damn quick the SOL system is toast so everyone needs to evacuate like TODAY! (The Starforce finds out they are in the middle of a galactic crossfire and are merely "unfortunate collateral damage")...
