While you are looking at the Fred stuff, it was mentioned a while ago that it might be nice if (a) the star slider could go down to 0 and (b) that you could specify the texture of the skybox as well as the model?

I know you are primarily hunting bugs, and that should obviously be first priority, but I was wondering, if you were tinkering and these happened to be available and easy to do.....?

While your at it, could you make the stars not look so crappy by "blurring" them as well as killing the streak you get when turning. Could you also make the slider go up to 200,000?

Flipside:  Just add any requests to Mantis if not already there.  As soon as I'm done with graphics fixes I'll move on and try and get to some of those bugs and whatever else is there.  If not in Mantis though I can promise you that I'll forget about it.

Actually I think that the stars are going to get redone at some point.  I'm pretty sure I remember seeing that anyway.  And I hope you're kidding about the stars since MAX_STARS is 2,000 now and if you need 100 times more then you might have some issues to work out.

It's got to render all of them though.  They are only points but it still has to process them and I don't really know at what point the performance loss would be too much.  I think that the star code was going to be changed the render differently so I don't really want to go in and start changing stuff that may delay that.  As far as the streak, I like it (sort of) and though it would be easy enough to disable I don't want to do that unless there is a consensus.  And I'm not adding a commandline option in case that's your next question.

I think there is still a plan to add a additional options screen in the game for FSO options so I suppose that could be one of them.  Um, actually I believe I was supposed to make the option screen now that I think of it... yup, it's on my list.

The streak is good. Whenever I see other space sims without blurring stars they look so... static and fake.

And what should this be good for anyway ? It's a mission designing
tool, and not a "make-pretty-renders-tool". Who cares if the stars
look crappy in Fred, as long as you are able to see that you set the
background image on the right position. (Sorry for asking, I simply
don't understand the purpose behind this request.).

We are in desperate need of a fully functional Fred (position-lines,
waypoints, briefing Icons, correct selectable ship models etc.), so this
should have priority for now.

Oh, I agree, FSO is growing so fast that poor Fred, which wasn't designed for it, is struggling to handle the load. From what I've heard SCP guys say about the Fred code, I think everyone deserves credit for keeping it more or less functional and up-to-date even if it is feeling a little ill at the moment
