Most Embarassing deaths
I don't doubt that someone has put up a post like this before, but what were your most embarassing FS2 deaths?  For me, it would have to be in Argonautica, the second 'rescue the Aquataine' mission.

After all my wingmen were vaporized by the annoying fighter supression missiles carried by the Shivan bombers, the Aquataine finally made it to the Gamma Draconis node, as I wiped out a quartet of Nahemas.  However, as I moved to engage the next incoming wave of bombers, I happened to pass right in front of the Aquataine, as it went to jump out.  Being in a Tauret, there was no chance of me getting out of the way.

"See you in Gamma Draconis Alpha"...."Alpha 1 was killed by a collision with Aquataine."

Mine was the first asteroid mission in FS1... the Galatea was down to about 80% hull and the two Shaitans were having a field day slinging bombs. My wingman was down, and there was no way a support ship would have gotten to me and given me Furies to finish off the Shaitans. So I resigned myself to flying intercept and popping off asteroids here and there... until I actually got to the first bomb and shot it down from about 300 meters.

"Alpha 1 was killed by a missile shockwave"

I can think of two deaths...

Once the Iceni rammed the Hinton when it went to jump out and the Hinton bounced off hiting me. My fighter bounced of  right in the Iceni's path, got hit and with 2% hull landed right infron of the Hinton as it warped out....
I felt like I was in a pinball machine

The second death is when I made the Claymore heavy bomber ad put into the campaign. I allso gave it the Redeemer ballistic cannon. the cannon itself was an anti-cap weapon and had 10 shots, long range, big damage and a big shockvawe..
So I go to kill the Ravana, and just as I'm about to shoot a basalisk flies infront of me. The Redeemer hit him and we both died in the blast...

Taking a direct hit from a pair of Cyclops bombs I was trying to chase down...yes, that DOES hurt.

AHTW

Hit by friendly beam, bounced into ship I was supposed to escort (Omega 1, an elysium transport, which was down to 2% integrity), killed Omega 1, failed mission, yelled angrily and accidently rebooted my computer by kneeing my CPU.

Technicaly counts as a death, doesn't it?

:ick: Man, that was so horrible.

i've got a picture of my most embaressing death that explains it all- but i've gotta find it first! *scurries off*

A somewhat embarrissing death is when I'm trying to take out a Beam Turret, particularly LReds of BFReds, often I try to get as many shots in there as I can so this means breaking away at the last second. And since you're just flying towards some big glob of light, it's hard to know how far you are away.

Needless to say, I have frequently and still do fly into the discharge sphere at the tip of the turret and consequently get vaporised in short order. The "it'll turn off before I get there" doesn't always work either.

On an aside, in a similar thread of this nature some guy named Hades said he got killed by the Hades exploding. When I was playing Dante's Ascension I noticed that the rear end of the Hades was flying off at about 600+ when it blew. So if you take out a Hades, do NOT sit behind it.

Killing yourself with bombs reminds me of another silly one I had.  In the 'slay ravana' mission, everything is blown up or left except me, a support ship and a pair of basilisks.  The only missiles I have left are a pair of cyclops, and trying to rearm with two basilisks going after you is bad news.  So, I manage to lock on one, and dump the cyclops after him.  Then go after the other with primaries.  Well, at least one of the cyclops hits the basilisks, but he happened to be right behind me at that time...

So only Support 1 lived to tell how the Ravana was destroyed.

In the last mission of the Aeos Affair, the Sathanas exploded, and a large chunk of the upper hull ended up smacking me in the face at 800m/s. (I was about 2500m away, 3 seconds is not enough time to fly out of the way.)

I had to redo that one. :nervous:

In the first release of the B5 mod, using the area suppresion missile, I forgot how big the explosion range was.   but raming bombs is allways a good second.

I had a lot of problems with accidently running into bombs in the FS1 port. Never was a problem in FS1 though.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

I was killed by my own allies. Only because I shot down a Herc without targeting. (was not an enemy after all, ooops.) :nervous:

Ah and I was killed by the Lysander's beams, while I got the "avoid the beams" message. I felt pretty dumb after that one.

The whole point of that is you or one of your wingmen is supposed to get at least brushed by the beams.  That whole bit about "avoid the beams and you won't get hit, pilot" was pretty useless.
