Nice....alltough those rotating big pannels sure limit the field of fire for the turrets...

But then just how fire power would you need for a vessel that you wouldn't see on the frontlines...

Although I have to admit, after the Second Great War, you would think the GTVA would better arm their ships..

Still....  Fine piece of work there :D

Those solar panels need to shrink. They also need to look like solar panels texture-wise.

I've never liked that brown-green texture.  It's not great here either.  Nice-looking mesh though.

Mesh is good, the texturing is, well...not so good. UV Map that sucker and try for a Faustus style texture so that both aspects of the model can be a worthy successor to the Faustus design (which, IMO, is one of the more interesting in FS).

I'd have to agree with Blackie over there - Uv 'er and draw from scratch.

Those are not solar panels. Solar panels don´t rotate around the ship, they need to be pointed at the local sun. Besides, i hate the way that texture looks.
Anyway, i have some new textures i will try out on the mesh, so i´ll update it when i have the time.

Look at what they're called in the targeting display when you cycle through the subsystems on a Faustus in-game.

"Solar Panels"
"Load sabot. Target Zaku, direct front!"

No, they are not!

For several reasons:
a) A ship equipped with reactors has no need for solar power. One single burst of one single turret would discharge any batteries the ship had collected from solar power. It would be completelly useless.

B) As i said above, solar panels don´t rotate, they need to be constantly pointed towards the sun to work at all. A rotating panel would not get in direct solar contact for more than a second or two. Who would run a solar panel like that??
Oh, i forgot that Command has the brain power of a door knob, but still... It´s too much dumbness even for them!

c) Those  panels are radar arrays, they rotate to get a 360 degree vision of its surroundings. Just like any earth radar today.
By rotating the panels along the ship´s body, they create a spherical array on all 3 axes, instead of the planar array 2 axial our navy has today.

d) I modeled the damn thing, and what i say goes! :D

Good enough for me :D

And when cycling through subsystems, it says "science01a-solar1."

science and solar...generating solar power doesn't effect scientific research of the kind the Faustus does...does it?

Let us assume :v: named the subsystem poorly.  :)

Not if you consider it a Faustus 2... [V] canon has them as solar panals. If you want to make it a ship unrelated to the faustus, you can do what you want, but you can't go against canon or go about changing whats cannon itself.

It's not important; what's important is that they rotate and look cool. :)

Just call the subsystem "cool-spinny-thing" and you're sorted.

But that shows just how dumb [V] was, doesn´t it? And just because they made a bad call naming the thing, doesn´t mean i need to repeat the same gross mistake, does it?
At most, we can say that those were solar traps, capturing the particules of solar winds for study and research. But calling them "solar panels" is just stupid and innacurate.
I don´t plan on making the same mistakes just because it is *canon*.
And besides, we´ve seen countless examples of where [V] altered their models from the Mk I to the Mk II versions. Like adding or subtracting gun mounts, in the Herc II. Just because the Mk I version of any ship had or had not a certain component, doesn´t disqualify the Mk II for having it, or not. Technology evolves, that´s why it´s called a Mk II. Otherwise we would just make an exact copy of the predecessor and leave it at that...

But if you're calling it the Faustus II, and you're incorporating the same spinny thing, (meaning it's essentially the only common thing between the mk1 and mk2 versions), then they are obviously supposed to be the same things.  Even if the ones on the faustus were misnamed, they should be the same things.

if you can't texture something nice, don't texture at all.
let someone else do it.
I say it doesn't look a thing like the Faustus, save the SOLAR PANELS, so why call it that, ditch the things whose purpose we cannot agree upon and call it a bulk freghter, it actualy looks like it would be a perfict sucsessor to the Chronos.

What I was gonna say long ago was that this controversory is a moot point. Call it MK II and mention why in the tech description, and you are covered... Problem solved. That is also part of modling SOLVING PROBLEMS.
