XP sold me the **** out!

It's automagically downloaded SP2, which means the next time I restart my computer, the ****ing thing is going to seize up and die because it'll realise I never activated the goddamn OS.

Piece of ****ing ****.

God, ****ing dammit.

I wonder if I can delete the files before they're installed....

I know someone who tried that and it just started BSODing on him constantly.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Just backup your important stuff before restarting. Just in case.

*cries*

It keeps popping the damn auto-updater thingy up, even after I've killed pretty much every task, giving me a 5-minute countdown to an autorestart.

I'll just have to hope my version isn't one of the blacklisted ones.

Which brings us the question as of why you ever installed XP that requires activation when you can install XP which does not require activation. And no, I am not talking about useless activation cracks which are not worth your time.

Go to a mirror, point at yourself and repeat: "God, ****ing dammit. You're mother****er.

Gotta love a good job where I can get MS software for free even if these are corporate versions. Not to mention that I can receive games as soon as certain importer have them available, for free. If only I could get that raise in my pay and I would be a lot happier.

Back to topic, please continue to delight us an0n. You can sometimes turn a bad morning into a good one with just one of your threads.

I use 98 like Rictor... What is this death-like sp2 you speak of?

It's not so much SP2 that would kill him.

It's the fact that his copy of Windows XP is...somewhat less than...legal...and he's afraid that if it auto updates to Service Pack 2 that somehow it will either fail to function or notify Microsoft who would likely add his name/IP address to a list of people they're going to file a law suit against for software piracy.

Okay it will kill him.

while we are on the subject of sp2. why is that effing "security center" popping up whenever I boot up, and how do I kill it off permanently? disabling "check for firewall" and crap doesn't work, it just comes back the next time I reboot.

I miss DOS.

yeah.  i go to Windows Update these days and the only thing under "critical updates" is "Windows XP Professional SP 2"...  haven't downloaded it yet.  i'm going to give it a few months, till they work (most of) the bugs out of it
