At better forums, the post above causes a ban, you are lucky to have written that here.

Oops. It wasn't serious. Notice I 'washed it (your comment) all down with a warm cup of lies (my comment)', meaning that I was making myself believe it was a lie by drinking more lies (or that it not being a lie is a lie itself), or something to that effect.

That is only a number. How many of them are still ACTIVE freespacers? At most 150.

No, the ratio is still rational, because it can be represented as a over b... a being 1 and b being sqrt(2).  Just like the ratio sqrt(2) over sqrt(5) is rational, even though both the numerator and denominator are irrational.

A rational number is defined as any number which can be represented as the ratio a over b, where b does not equal 1.

Goober, you're mistaken there.  For a rational number, that a and b have to be integers.  That's straight from a math textbook.  Otherwise, you could make the argument that i/2 is a rational number, even though it's imaginary. :p

Oh dear you guys are confusing me a lot!!!
I'm only in grade nine and what I've heard is:

Q={a over b|a,b belong to I; b cannot equal zero}

SOMEONE explain it please!? Clearly? :eek2:

Ugh.  You're right, a and b have to be integers.  I was going by the definition I had, which didn't include that crucial stipulation.

I get dizzy at the thought of anything above Algebra 1. :sigh:  Which is pretty sad considering that I'm going for what is essentially a dumbed down(no Calculus(it scares me, I mean adrenal fight/flight level scared.  whenever it gets brought up I get uncontrolably surly and ill-tempered) requirement) CS degree.

Yes, that's the definition of the set of rational numbers. However, there are ratios that are not in the set of rational numbers which are ratios with non-rational a, b.

Ratios != Rational numbers.

Science alone of all the subjects contains within itself the lesson of the danger of belief in the infallibility of the greatest teachers in the preceding generation . . .Learn from science that you must doubt the experts. As a matter of fact, I can also define science another way: Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts. - Richard Feynman

I still remember some of that from school circa 7 years ago (f**k me is it really 7 years ?)
what was it...? SOH COA TOA ? somethin' like that ?

In Dutch it's SOSCASTOA
SOS: sin=opposite/diagonal
CAS: cos="the one next to the angle"/diagonal
TOA: tan=opposite/"the one next to the angle"

Not the hardest part, at all.  Once you get to the point you need 3 of those calculations, plus 2 times pytagoras, plus a couple of sketchy geusstimates about the shape of an object just to answer the first part of a question, you know you've hit a 'fun' bit.
