Actually the AR is pretty good against Elite's shields. Circle them and empty the clip in their back. But I prefer overcharging the plasma pistol  to waste their shields and then punching them to death. Ha ha. Manly.
What frequency are you getting? Is it noise or sweet sweet music? - Refused - Liberation Frequency.

I always thought the AR was the worst weapon for taking down shields.

Yeah I never had any luck with it against elites except on easy (where  you can kill an elite with one clip sometimes). If you have to reload you're dead meat.

I did use the AR fairly heavily in 343 Guilty Spark and The Library however. It makes a nice complement to the shotgun. It has loads of ammo and deals with infection forms quite easily.

Depends how you use it, short bursts of fire over distance can keep accuracy quite tight, peppering an elite and chipping away at it's shields is how I did it in Legendary, or running behind them circle strafing so they couldn't get a bead on me. Only when the AR was the best (or only) weapon of choice, however the AR is still not my weapon of choice, that's the pistol and shotgun combo, distance and power.

I think though I come at this from a multiplayer perspective, it's been a while since I played single player.

AR --> Battle Rifle
SMG = Not based on previous weapon
Pistol --> Pistol (no scope, shorter range)

Best weapon combo on Halo (on Legendary) is plasma pistol and human pistol. Vaporize the elites shields then two head shots.

This mod makes the game too easy, I could whip through the Pillar of Autumn with the AR, something I could never do or think of doing before.

But speaking of mods for Halo, does anyone know of any co-op mods?

Yeah I know. I did make the AR a bit too powerful. But this is the first mod for any game I've ever made. There's some stuff I want to change so I'll probably put a patch out soon.

I hate to derail another thread, but while we're talking about Halo mods, does anyone know of a patch, hack or anything that makes Halo run smoothly at 1024x768 on a GF FX5200?  

My old GF4MX440 ran it a beauty, but my 'new' 5200 only works properly at 640.

That'll probably be the pixel shaders kicking in I'm afraid. The MX440 doesn't support them, so the game automatically disables them, whereas the 5200 does iirc. :)

Try adding something like -ps1.1 or -ps1.4 to the command line (see the readme for the exact command).  Albeit I've never got Halo to run well at any setting on my FX5600; it seems to be a matter of luck as to whether you can actually run it or not.
