Good points, all. You deserve to know what's going on, so here's where things stand.
Yes, our being here with GS is for free, so we can't really
complain about the service, weird as that may be. However, rest assured that we aren't exactly sitting quietly every time something goes wrong, waiting for GS to fix it.
As for relocation, I'd be lying if I said we haven't been looking into various options along those lines over the past few months. Bottom line is it'd probably cost between
$10-$20 USD per month for the kind of package we
think HLP needs (remember, GS hasn't shared with us any information concerning how much bandwidth usage we consume... plus, if we moved, we'd lose the services of FilePlanet, which would mean that bandwidth would become a much larger problem than you might initially think).
Now, if we did decide to leave GS, that would lift the restriction we currently have on advertisements, allowing us to possibly get some sort of revenue via Google ads or the like. But of course, Google doesn't publically share how much income people can expect to get per click, so we don't know ahead of time how much that would have the potential to bring in.
So that's where things are at at the moment. We're weighing our options, waiting on a few things to happen, etc. For the time being, however, we're stayng with GS.
