hi there......
I want to make a campaign.......
I already got the plot................(it's a little inspired in Halo, so you got an idea)...
developing the plot was real hard..............but i think that this campaing will answer most questions we have from Freespace 2...
What are the Shivans? Why are they attacking us? they haven't settled any planets, why??? what happened with Bosch??? and more...
the plot will also feauture a MAJOR irony...you'll know when it's released...

but i have a SERIOUS PROBLEM with the FRED..........
i can't open it!!!
it gives me error with the gamepalette01-1 or something..

note 2: i haven't played FS1, but i'm well aware of what happened there...

Did you already tried a reinstall? Are you using standard FRED or the OPEN version? If you installed the Open_FS2 it will have problems with the standard FRED which cames with the commercial version of FS2.

Very strange behavior. Try sending a Private Message to some mods on the forum. They have lots of experience and probably saw this before.

i found a FS1 port to FS2!!!

Gamepallete...whatever refers to a file that wasn't included with retail FS2. I think it has something to do with subspace missions. Anyhow, the file is in the Core Media VP, which is located here.

But to get it to work like its supposed to, you may want to grab FSOpen 3.6. Details are in this thread. If you grab the full installer one, it should have all the VP's you need. There's also some new version of FRED you can use, but most are pretty unstable at the moment. I don't have a link handy for that one at the moment.

And just a word of warning, most new FREDders come around announcing a huge campaign, but few rarely come through. So don't be surprised if some people aren't super excited about this. It's advised that you either join a project start off small like a mini-campaign or something. You don't have to, its just that if everyone worked on their own huge campaign, nothing would ever get done.

If you're just starting to FRED, I'd recommend checking out FRED Academy. It's geared towards the new FREDders or people with little FREDding skills. There are more details about it in the thread at the top of the board.

That's a common error when FRED2 can't find it's vp files. Is FRED2 in the same folder as all the rest of your Freespace2 .vp files? If so most likely one of them has become corrupted somehow.

may be the files are corrupted......right from the CD...
(i reinstalled, but the problem it's still there)
the FRED2 is in the same folder as the VP files...
and i have used the FRED2 before....i have made...fifteen missions (none of them published)...

may be the files are damaged from the CD...it's in the Sparky VP file... the main one..... the strange thing it's that the game plays correctly....i have played the first 10 missions of the Single-Player Campaing and everything ran fine...

and about the campaign i wanna make..............i'm not talking about a HUGE campaing with dozens of missions...loads of mods and stuff......................................................... ...the only thing HUGE in the campaign is the plot...i worked it though for 10 hours...or more...

Download the FS2_open 3.6 package from the Source Code Project forum (You'll only need the executables rather than the installer for what I have in mind).  Put the Launcher EXE, FRED2_open EXE and the FS2_Open EXE in your Freespace2 Folder.

Run FS2_Open's launcher to set the correct setting in the registry (you can run FS2_Open from the launcher to test if it works too) Then test FRED2_Open and see if that works.

If the VP is corrupt FRED2_Open whould crash out with exactly the same error message. If it does work you can simply download FRED2_Open 3.5.5 and use that instead of the retail version.

What I think it is is a corrupted file. Try extracting the faulty file out of the .vp itself. It always seems to work for me. ... Wait. the VP's are faulty, right? Well, get 'em replaced. Oh, crap, i'm confused........ ARGH! $%&*#%^

errr...i have more problem to go...
i need some 'new' ships for campaign...but i little modding skills...
no idea how to modify a model...or to edit a pcx file (the maps)...

[ SPOILER ] i need 'infested' versions of the Fenris, the Deimos, the hercules MKI, the Ulyses, and the Loki. the models should have some sort-of spikes or biologal formation in their surface. and their textures should be green-teal colored with 'infection'-like stains [ SPOILER/ ]
