How to reconfigure a broadband router? I'm trying to get Xbox Live to work again but whenever I try to connect it tells me that "No DNS Server addresses were received from the DHCP or PPPoE server. Enter the DNS Server(s) provided by your ISP in the Network Settings menu."

  • huh?.. Who?.. hey you kids, git off me lawn!
try and find the IP of your router.. (it's usually with the documentation of the router) and you can config it from any browser..

do not torment the sleep deprived artist, he may be vicious when cornered,
in case of emergency, administer caffeine to the artist,
he will become docile after that,
and less likely to stab you in the eye with a mechanical pencil

okaaay

1) Start-> Run -> CMD
2) (in the dos screen) ipconfig /all  in this list it should show the local IP's of /all/ network devices.
3) find the IP of your router (it should be named in the list)
4) bring up any browser window.. and type that IP into the address bar.

is the router hooked up to your computer at all?...

it should be the IP given in the "Default Gateway" line

DHCP should be enabled by default.

well, there shouldn't be one required, just hit "enter" and see what happens..or, you could try the login details you got for your ISP account, that usually works.  if that doesn't work, call up your ISP and ask them what the login/pass is.

Cables are fine. We already checked it by plugging in a Handheld and it worked perfectly for surfing the net. (I dont get the "cables not connected" error message when I try to connect to XBL, it says that the IP addresses could not be resolved)

Shouldnt the Xbox find the IP addresses on its own though? It is set to automatic.

Into the router. One sec and I'll draw up a diagram of the network.

Keep in mind that this is how I THINK the network is set-up. All the cables are in the walls/attic so I don't have many visual ques.

well, i see here, two routers.. that could be the problem right there.
you've got two routers to tweak, take into account both of them, and whether or not either have a hardware firewall active.

Yeah but only 2 on the path from the X-box to the outside world.

Why do you need 3 routers in one house anyway? Especially when router 2 just plugs directly into router 1.
