Random Campaign-Related Question #159514221
Has anyone ever bothered to create a mapping-out of the location of the turrets on the canon ships? Even a text guide would be nice...

Well in FRED, you could go through the weapons in the ship editor to find out which turret does what, then press "k" to cycle through each turret to find out where they are. It's not that quick of a reference, but it would work.

Random Campaign-Related Question #159514221
I've tried that, but in the case I've been trying to do (the Iceni) it's just not working. There are too many Terran Turret/Huge Terran Turret mounts, and I don't know which one it is.

Next I try putting a beam in a turret in FRED with a periodic fire-beam SEXP, then going to play the mission, see which turret it is, go back, repeat until I find the four turrets I'm looking for...

If anybody happens to know the turret numbers of the Iceni's amidships broadside turrets I would be eternally greatful.

Or you could use modelview, then go through the guns tab. It's much easier to spot them that way.

Yeah, Modelview isn't fun to find, at to least me. It isn't included in the FreeSpace Toolkit, and then you need to find a replacement exe if you want to view high poly models...

Anyhow, here's a link to it.

I might have something lying around on paper, I had to check out where all the turrets were, and what did what for my Freespace conversions to babylon 5 wars (found here: http://knossos.firenebula.com ). I think all I have is some silly paper sketch, but I could scan it and send it if you want. The stupid Iceni has weapons all over the place and is quite frankly a real piece of crap.

You can switch turrets in FRED by pressing "k", as you do ingame.

Don't tell me none of you guys know about this LOL.

Random Campaign-Related Question #159514221
That was already noted above.  However, it's imperfect, as it chooses the next closest turret, not every single one.  I've had times where I've hit it a hundred times and it hasn't found the turret I need.

Random Campaign-Related Question #159514221
Something I did to help me find the turret numbers is simple.

Make a test mission and put the ship in question into the mission. From there, go to the initial status box from the ship editor, and for each turret give it a starting precentage equal to it's number.

Then go into the mission, and you can see exactly where each turret is, and map them out on paper or whatever else you choose to do. (consult the ships.tbl for which turret has which gun)

For example, you can take the Iceni:
turret01a - 1%
turret02 - 2%
turret03 - 3%
turret04 - 4%

You get the idea. It takes a few minutes, but you should have no problems getting the job done. ModelView, conversely is a pain because it doesn't list the turrets as they are in the table. Instead it'll have weapon turrets 1-15 and missile batteries 1-4 or something akin to that.

...

No... Pressing 'k' cycles through turrets in sequential order. THe Iceni, and the Hecate had unorganized turret placings. See the little red number near the box? thats the turret number... now, just correspond with the same number in the weapons tab...

I was referring to in-game, not in FRED.  I don't have any experience with it.  If it works differently there, then my description is flawed.

That thing has a bad habit of resetting sometimes in game if you stop pressing it for a second.
