Speed tweak for Mozilla/FireFox users
I've been using this tweak for some time, but don't recall if I ever shared it with you folks. (or if I did, it was a long long time ago)

Quote
1. Type "about:config" in the address field.
2. Set the value of network.http.pipelining to "true".
3. Set the value of network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to "100".
4. Set the value of network.http.proxy.pipelining to "true"
5. Set the value of nglayout.initialpaint.delay to "0"

If the variable isn't there, you'll have to create it yourself.  To my knowlege, only "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" isn't in Mozilla by default.  (for those of you that have to create it, keep in mind that it uses an integer value so you'll have to use the integer option.)

To add a variable, all you have to do is right-click (anywhere in the variable listing) and select new.  Pick the type of variable, and then give it a name and value.  All changes take place immediately.

Crap.  I made the nglayout a string by accident.  How do I change it?

EDIT: Found out how to delete the entry by editing prefs.js and made a new entry.

Awsome, at first I couldn't get it to work because of the space that is automatically added in because of the ":" but figured it out, and now pages load heaps faster.

Thanks mate. :D

BTW, have you got a fix for scrolling lag?
If you goto www.bungie.net and try scrolling, it acts as if its trying to move a bus...
Is that fixable or is that their web code?

Thanks again for the tip!

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

I took the post at face value so I copy and pasted "about:config" in the address area knowing it wouldn't work... (not valid URL)

Next I open options in toolbar and I did not find a config area or tab (unless this goes under proxies?)

Can you be a little more specific on where, how this tweak is implimented?  Pretend the people reading this are computer literate enough only to download and auto install Firefox.. Thanks!

It's not http://about:config if that's what you did. Just plain about:config.

It's '"about:config" without any spaces, not "about :config" or "about: config"

uh, its causing my mouse to lag ever so slightly. And I don't really notice any apparent speed-up (using Mozilla, not Firefox.)

You don't sacrifice anything, but if the website/server is improperly coded it can bring down the whole website/server.
