Personally, I think the man deserves it, he has had what can only be described as one of the worst jobs in history, America's scape goat.

And yes, I do think that, regardless of my opinion of the UN, regardless of his own son's behaviour, this man has been forced to deal with the United Nations, a job not unakin to Kindergarden teacher....

Nah, if they actually *enforced* the sanctions to the best of their abilties, I'd be pleased. But currently they are little more then a formality to fool the ignorant masses.

I am, quite honestly pissed at the UN for not taking action in anything, but 'action' is a kind of broad term.

It's like the movies....there's American action that usually involves lots of people screaming and running away from Big explosions etc, compared to, for example, French action, which involves lots of crying and people slapping each other

Who says they didn't try, Rictor? Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your point of view, the US holds veto powers on the Security Council. The Human Rights Commitee has passed resolutions condemning US actions...which is something of a joke, IMO, since Libya heads the commitee right now and Mister Khaddifi does not exactly have a good record in that area.

More to the point, Sudan is at least an order of magnitude greater then anything you have mentioned. Let's deal with the big stuff first, 'kay?

If you want the UN to get off its ass and do something, well then that applies equally for everyone. And so far, I'm not seeing any threat of sanctions against any of the nations involved in Iraq, including Holland.    Sure, put sanctions against Sudan, Iraq etc, but I also want to see that against the powerful nations who break international law.

And especially since in the case of Iraq, such sanctions would be A: pointless, B: unenforceable, and C: bad for the Iraqis.

The UN is a toothless waste of space now. It needs shaking up drastically, or it should be closed down and a new body set up with some actual power to get things done.

ngtm1r: How do you define "the big stuff"? Killing millions of civilians in wartime? Supporting or even planning and mounting coups against democratically elected governments? Sponsoring terrorists? Using mass casualty weapons on heavily populated areas?
