2.6 athlon,
256mb DDR ram,
win XP,
Ati Radeon 9500 128 4.10 drivers

Even on that i get very low framerates of 15, 4 R1. am using the inferno SCP so how well R2 run on ma comp

Probably your ram is the problem there, that's maybe why R1 runs slow.

Your graphics card is fine, since I'm using a 256mb 9200 card.

I'd suggest 512 min ram, 1024 should be ideal. 1024 might be more recomended since XP takes up more memory than other win systems.

We might post a recommended minimum spec once we get into the testing phase and start testing it on a larger variety of systems.

XP doesn't actually take up that much more, only about 10 MB or so. I guess it depends on how it is configured. But yeah, for anything SCP more memory = better.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

I dunno why but I have:
Athlon 1600+
GeForce 3 Ti200 64 mb
756 DDR
win XP
Direct 9c

and when I rud R1 with old inferno build I have quite good FPS
Even in mission 13 (Nemesis?) I have about 25 FPS
weard :D

Edit: It was when I had 256 DDR not 756, I think that now it would be little better, even more weard :D

Depends on what you have running in the background, also depends if you have any 'extras' such as shinemaps and glowmaps. Stuff like that can give a big hit on the fps count.

alpha maps kill the framerate, adn dont do anything. make sure that thats off :)

funny... i have 256DDR RAM and a P4 processor (2.2Ghz, i think) and i get quite good framerates. on nemisis, actually, it runs better than most of the other missions. probs cuz i dont look at the ships if i dont have to...

BTW, on nemisis, is there any 'tips' you have? if youre supposed to actually save the independance, HOW do yo udo it??? i cant take out a half a superdestroyers beam arsenal in that amount of time!!!

I send the AI after the weaker turret, and go after the main one alone. Works every time for me as long as I avoid the stingers :D

I have a 3000+ (2.1GHz) 1024DDR RAM and a 9200 256mb, so you should get decent framerates. I get on average between 40-120 with it only going below 40 at specific points.

The Y target thing has been like that for quite some time, it's a known bug.

ok i have now got 512DDr ram, in ma machine, but i still cant get a good framerate, still at 15 for inferno, i only have 18 processes runing and none of them take up much and i have upgraded to the latest drivers. i can get 69 FPS on regular FS SCP, its weird :wtf:  anyway i am gonna upgrade my video card, but not sure to what, any suggestions and one that will allow shine maps to work, i have a £150 to spend, at the moment i have a ATi radeon 9700 128mb.

I have over 35 processes running and I can still hit 60-120 fps with R1 on my 9200 card.

Try removing the SCP media VP if you have it, or turn extra command line options off.

The contrary, I believe. win98 allows higher framerates than XP/

XP is a RAM hog. it takes like half of what i have now...\

thx for tips. ill try. i like to fly the perceus2 though. i absolutely HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT the cyone. its gunpoints suck, it loks stupid, and its textured horribly (im sorry, but i REALLY hate it).

oh well, if i can beat the mission with it,...

RAM is key guys. I can tell you from a first hand experience. If you plan on running FSOpen with all (or even most) of the flags, having at least 512 is HIGHLY recommended. About 768 is required for optimal play in my opinion. Be sure to have your virtual memory settings high as well because if having them too low will negatively effect preformance. Do this especially if you have a shortage of RAM.

BTW, when I upgraded from 512 to 768 I noticed a tremendous difference. Just keep in mind though that I run FSOpen with every flag and dont notice any lag-ups or slow-downs during gameplay.

There's also the fact that win2k and XP both cap the fps limits at the monitor refresh rate. Or at 60. I forget which, but it's generally low.

i can see the earth still. it actually flickers less than in the inf build... huh, weird...

when a program is doing ANYTHING in windows and it doesnt wnat to be interrupted, it says its not responding. it get it alot too. tis very irritating, yes. i have less RAM than you do, and windows eats half of THAT, so i get that alot. (for example, it takes 5 minutes to start my compy cuz of all the startup stuff)

Problems with Framerate?
I just upped my Virtual memory to 40GB!
No more problems!

Now that's 40 GB that is reserved for your page file and nothing else. :p Besides, I have it very hard to believe that would fix your problems.
