It's just like the modern-day Kiev or Kirov classes. They build each ship of the class slightly different.

And if you hold me to that standard, well, I'm screwed...

meh... i dont like it.

when i read starship troopers, i envisioned the RY as something more along the lines of a torpedo frigate (HW2). i dont know why. i just did. well, except it was a dropship :)

BTW, i never seen the movie, just read the book.

that is my 2 cents.

The thing is, most models here are made with FS in mind, wich means that uber detailed ships like that could never be used. So why would anyone go the extra length to detail a model that he/she knows could not use on anything, and would just sit and colect dust on some HDD?
Get FS up to speed poly capacity wise, and i´m sure many models that would put that one to shame will appear. Untill then, we can´t hardly expect anyone to present such a detailed work while keeping it under FS poly standards. It´s just not possible.

And I presume you've never made a model that's derivative of another design in some way?

Yes i have, but i don´t pretend it to be something else.
Just imagine that i download one of your models, shift some vertex around, and then call it "my" model. How would you feel about that?
:nervous:

Anyway, let´s drop the subject. We´ve all shared our views on the matter, no need to go over them a million times again.
:)

On a more worth while subject, have you guys browsed the site? There are some really great tutorials on various subjects. The author uses Lightwave, but most of the tips are pretty much standard for any modelling program.

Note the "Adding mesh detail" tutorials, very good stuff. You will need to click on "Tutorials" on the right side, and then choose a button on the down scroll list. I can´t link directly.

Trust me-- if you saw the movie, the starship designs would be the least of your complaints.

I think I'm the only one who's confident to speak on this matter.  The ****ty Death looks like the Roger Young because it was designed to.  It's an old Spacebattles joke and Kier decided to make a model of the RY, cept he did it how he liked it.  '****ty Death' is a reference to how crappy the RY ships were when getting shot at. :p
